  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

cracked clutch cover. ally weld or liquid metal?

2wheels

Husqvarna
B Class
got a tiny hairline crack in the clutch cover on my 04 450. mates reckon liquid metal will do the job. I'm not so sure. I understand this to be a known fault and can be caused by being a little to enthusiastic with the kickstart. tos not separated like some I've seen but leaking once the oil is warmed. any suggestions? can't find a replacement case for it

Mate I have used neadit metal putty on my old duke to seal a crack in the clutch cover. Has been like it now for 8 years or so and has never given me any issues. Nice and neat, you can hardly tell its there... If you weld, you MAY distort the clutch cover completely and cause a bigger issue ****************************************!, Not saying you will, just may !

You can use a product called "metal mend" or HTS-2000. It is aluminum epoxy that you put on with a propane torch similar to brazing. It melts below aluminum so nothing gets distorted. Polished, it is indetectable from the base aluminum. I saw it at a bike show once. Guy was drill holes in a side case, brazing them closed with the metalmend then polishing until the repair was invisible. When done he would drill another hole and repeat. I have repaired cracked carburators and other fine aluminum items with excellent results. And its cheap. Cam.

JB weld. Used it on my 2006 KTM200XCW on the clutch and flywheel cover and it has leaked yet. My buddies son is racing the bike and no issues.

I think ...but not sure that the 04 covers are made of magnesium you might want to check on it

someone did mention it might be magnesium? can anyone confirm? I've used seething similar called lumiweld over here but couldn't get it to stick. old go with the chemical metal first. not particularly fussed what it looks like I just want it sealed lol.

Then order up a new cover once you've sealed it. Even if it sits in the bag on the bench, it's cheap insurance from a loss of parts support.

7602racing.com list a cover for 2004-2007 bikes. $150 or about £100 to you! It also has an oil level sight glass.
If it is a stress crack then chemical fixing may not hold? I had an 04 TE510 that broke the casing from
Starting it, but that was the casing behind the clutch cover.

Oh ok 2wheels, maybe try get it welded then. I've used a place called SEP in Kegworth Nottinghamshire (if they are still around? Check in MCN) they welded up Aprilia Mille clutch case for me.
Google say they still exist

Nice ome thanks. I'm still going to try the liquid metal first. it is only a hairline crack and only about 3 maybe 4 centemeters. thanks for your help Ikea keep them in mind

It's a magnesium alloy cover, mostly aluminum. Metal epoxy will hold for awhile, but not permanent. It can be tig welded if acid etched first. Most weld shops will be able to hand this with ease. I've welded whole cases, no problem.
