  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hello!

New member here :)

I have a cr125 - 11 that i just found a crack in the engine case by the swingarm mount.. Ill attach a photo further down.

So, how to fix this? Anyone had these cases welded with success?

that is not a big problem for a skillful welder

never had a husky cracked but another brand but welding was a simple task.

Perfect! :) really glad to hear that. Worried it was some weird magnesium/aluminium metal.

Actually it had both. Worn swingarm bearings and a cracked upper engine mount! Both fixed now tho :)

Not to happy with splitting the cases, think i can get it fixed without? It isnt to near anything else and behind it seems to be just air if i look at parts diagram. No oil behind it.

metal putty maybe? could carefully dremel a bit of crack out(gonna get welded regardless sooner or later), clean it real good then jb weld the hell out of it. maybe rough up a bit of case around crack so it has bit of surface area to grab on to & spread any possible flex/vibes. do it properly be ya best bet though

Definately get a good welder onto that! No it's not any fancy alloy, something like 4043 filler with a good TIG unit would do. Any welder worth their while would be able to fix that you just have to clean the case REALLY well (think "you could eat off it clean") & pre heat the case prior to running the weld.

Correct! And de-grease with acetone over and over (wear gloves, acetone goes in the skin and messes with your organs).
Also drill 2 small holes at the ends of the crack to ease the stress, when welded up this prevents the crack appearing again.

Only thing is of concern is if the cases "moved" due to the crack and bearings will be out of alignment. If it's near the swing arm mount as yours is this should be no problem, if near a crank bearing this could be a no-go.
