  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st CR50 for new rider?

Poopy

Husqvarna
AA Class
Thinking about getting a CR50 for my daughter, she is 6, quite tall, but can be timid at times. I only have one concern, is that it might be too much bike since they are meant to be MX'd hard by crazy little guys. Any way to detune these a bit?

I was in Bills Motorcycles Plus, and he talked me out of a little used CR50 for my 7yr old, that has 3 years trail experience. We trail ride only, and said it is not a good trail bike. Way to high strung if I remember right. I settled on an SDG 50, big bore 70 he had sitting in his show room, and it turned out a perfect bike for him.

Size-wise, I'm sure it's fine for her, but if she is timid, may not be the best idea. One whiskey throttle might scare the living bejesus out of her, especially if it's on the pipe!

My thoughts exactly.....oh man such a toss up since they are so cheap. I put a throttle stop on her JR50 and that slowed her down on that thing.
I also wouldnt be opposed to making a new pipe similar to a trials bike that has no expansion chamber, that should kill the top end.

OH... She is not a new rider? That may change my thinking a bit if she has some experience with a twist throttle and what not.

My boy also had a KDX50 (Same as JR, just rebadged Kawi).

I don't know about how to de-tune it, but your pipe idea sounds like a good one. If you do it this way, you will almost have 2 bikes in 1. You could always re-tune it when the day comes...

Yes, thats just it. As she grows, I could give it more power. Apparently there is some adjustment in the clutch for rider skill level too. They are $1000 for a brand new 2012 right now, pretty hard to say no. If she doesn't like it I guess I can learn to do backflips on it. lol

Are you seriously telling me a brand new 2012 CR50 has a price tag of only 1k?

Booo sold them all. But they jacked the price of PDI, documentation and all that crap. So a $998 bike, turns into $1710.
