• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

CR250 LC losing water out of overflow?

darren7878

Husqvarna
AA Class
Once bike gets up to full operating temperature its starts to lose some water out of the overflow.

Cannot find anything wrong, have rebuilt the water pump now but problem still exists.

Cannot find any water locks, whole of radiator is hot.

Was thinking about swapping the radiator cap but has anyone got any other ideas?

The overflow pipe is just in this picture.

Bike did around ten minutes here then I took picture

Funny I just went and swapped the head gasket out. It was new but I was worried.

Then I see you guys mentioning it too so maybe we are on the right track!!!

Old gasket looked wet so I'm hoping the one I put back in is better.

I will run it up and take a known good cap with me .

On head gaskets in the past I spray them with the permatex Hi-Tack sealer. I did this on cars, trucks, high performance engines. They never had a head gasket go bad. I never tried it on a LC bike yet. I soak the head gasket on both sides and assemble.

noticed you have the original straight clutch arm, if you switch to the liquid cooled arm it has a z shape that has better alignment and gives easier pull. most lc engines have this or phil has a ss one for sale. i believe there was a "husky products" one for sale also as a retrofit but it was just an lc arm

try swapping the cap for sure. if its a good cap i would start thinking head gasket. very likely the cap
Husky radiator caps are a lot higher pressure that others but look the same.
Husky caps from memory are 1.1 or 1.2 bar [ bar is 14lb about ]
I have fitted a 11lb cap and the coolant pissed out.

Your using old head gaskets?

Hi Bill - the top end has been off and rebuilt with new gaskets but something appeared to be a miss. Thinking the new gasket was compromised I took a risk and about an hour of spannering and fitted an 'old' gasket that I had.

The old gasket I refitted measured out at 1.2mm the new one that appeared to be no good was 1mm.

I only used the old gasket as I have some time constraints. The bike needs to be ready for a meeting that's looming up very soon

That sounds very interesting thank you

this one is brand new and ss, but the oem 85-88 are steel and the same shape. you can also bend yours to get the angle but i believe that ends up making it a tad shorter when its done. i have one of the ss units and its a nice piece that i imagine would be resistant to wear
