  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc cr/wr125 questions

I doubt i'll be able to provide any valuable insight as I don't motox very much.

I prefer running into trees over falling out of the air ;)

I hear you, I never had a chance to practice jumping very much. I'm so much better on turns/straights on a MX track, or on the trails, compared to jumping - i feel like i could run at a B-class level on turns, but on jumps I'm a mid-C rider at best. I still like to jump though - when everything goes well, it's one of the best feelings in the world. But when it doesnt...... :busted:

Thanks for the post. #199 looks like one of the better single track sections. I've been to HM twice and 80% of the time we were stuck riding a bunch of quad trails (I hate quad trails)...

Yep same here, I'm lucky if I can clear a double. Gonna work on pre-loading up there this time. Last time I kept coming up short on a double. A friend shot some video of me and some other guys hitting it which was very helpful. You could see the guys that cleared it no problem were going about the same speed, only difference was they were pre-loading and I was just riding over it.

Did I mention I'm kind of old? I broke my first bone ate age 39 (fractured fibula) and while the pain wasn't horrible hobbling around for 3 months with an air cast on absolutely sucked so I try to take it easy.

I'm with you on the quad trails!

Buffalo Mountain has a decent amount of good single track, unfortunately it's also the farthest away for me. We stay in Matewan and pretty much stick to the single tracks using the quad trails to connect them. During the summer when the days are long you we will hit most of the single tracks between Matewan and Delbarton, then swing over to Williamson and grab lunch at Starters, gas up then head back to Matewan riding the trails in the opposite direction.

We only made it down once this season but we're going to try to get down more often next year.

Maybe we could do a Cafe Husky meetup down there? I think that would be pretty cool.

let us know what you think about the 165 at the MX track you were considering going to this weekend

I can answer that.

I recently bought a WR165 from a member here. I'm a motocrosser, but I bought the bike to run in a local off road series that I used my CR150 for last season.
Because of all the rain we've had here in the last few months, I've only been able to take the bike on the MX track.
It's fast. The difference I felt between my (well prepped) RM125 and the CR150, I felt again in the 165. The torque is there, and was enough to run up a gear in some spots, but top end was enough that I never felt like I had to short shift.
In other words, I didn't have to shift nearly as much as with the 150.
I know somebody who's ridden both my bike, and a CR165, and he told me the CR came on harder, and pulled longer, probably because of the ignition.

I bought the bike figuring it was going to save me some money, already having the 165 installed. It may end up costing me because I think I need one now on my MX bike.

What pipe are you running on the 165. Is it a 200 pipe or a 125 pipe. I am also a motocrosser and have just bought a 125 and also have the 144 kit to fit at a latter date. I am enjoying the 125 so far. But I am very interested in these 165's

I have the 200 pipe on the 165.
I put a FMF fatty on my 144 and I'm very happy with it. I found the stock 125 pipe to be a little too peaky.

I have ordered a FMF fatty as well. Waiting for it to arrive. It is a Xmas present so I will have to wait a little while to try it.

I have the 200 pipe and the cr ignition on my 165. From what I've read the 200 pipe is more a bottom mid pipe but it seems to rev to the moon to me but then again this is the first tiddler I've had.

I was able to get a plate for my bike over the winter. I don't plan on riding it on the road much but my local trails are a few miles away and it's more convenient to be able to just hop on the bike and ride there.

So now i need lights to keep the law off my back. I don't ride at night so they don't have to work well, they just need to work.

I decided to try winding it myself. A few dollars of wire, some epoxy and zero patients yielded this:

I got way less wire on the poles than i wanted to due to
my messy winding, but like i said, it just needs to work.

Got it back on the bike and checked for spark... still good.

Started it up and hooked up a h4 bulb and success!

I'm certainly not going to be able to run baja at night but it's good enough.

Now i'll be moving on to phase 2 which is putting on the dual sport kit.

that's really creative - good job!

Way cheaper than the maglite and duct tape method too :)
