  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Counter Balance Shaft Delete

Has anyone done the balance shaft delete and replaced Flywheel gear with the TC Flywheel Counterweight in attached pic?

I Think the TC weight would be more beneficial as you don't have a gear churning away at oil for nothing!

Any info in regards to the delete when going from 510 to 530 would me much appreciated as well.

I have heard to delete balance shaft is good and it will not affect maintenance cap, also i have heard it give little bit more vibration, but a serious increase..

Hey Mik, Yeah my Italian sources say do it...I'm interested if anyone has fitted the TC flywheel weight in place of SMR Flywheel counter weight gear.:excuseme:

I have never liked the vibration on my 2008 TE450 with no balance shaft. If/when I split this engine I will be adding the balancer. I would suggest trying a bike without it before getting rid of it.

You won't feel any change in power but sure will feel a difference in vibration. Better buy some loctite and thick gloves.

Agree 100% with tntmo's statement above......Try one without balancer before commiting.
I have owned both and prefer with balancer.
Bugs

As a long time owner of an 08 TE510, I would highly recommend not removing it. The lack of a balancer is the biggest gripe I have with this bike. I have always wished I could start my bike and not have to babysit it why it’s warming up. The bike will literally walk backwards and there is a possibility of it falling over. Plus the constant buzz on your hands while on pavement is a pain. If you really want to remove it, I’ll send you my address and take it off your hands

No way dude, I have dibs! :D
My engine is still running very strong, has almost zero leakdown and has been reliable but it's starting to develop oil leaks everywhere. I don't want to take it apart just to install new gaskets, so I guess I could always do a counter balancer install as well?

I have a 510 balancer if you are looking.

Thanks for your input legends...I'm running the 530 kit & pretty sure it is a must to remove the balancer?
If so I will sell the balancer for a small fee.

I have since learnt that when doing the delete no Counterweight like the TC is required but can be used. It's only purpose is to make the Dirt version less agressive.

I have 530cc kit in my sm510r for street and i have that balancer and i will keep it
Hey Mik...So you had no problems with Balancer piston iterference. Think you have convinced me to keep it as I'm no Rossi and will be mainly riding street.

Yeah i would keep it, no issues in 13500km hard core street riding.
But my interest i would want to try Husky 530cc where is not that balancer, is that vibring how bad, is it faster in revs..When if that vibring bad, it will ruining drive feel
