  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Considering a 2012 TC250

I currently ride a 2002 husky cr250. I've got the bike really dialed in for myself w/ Suspension revalve/respring, Rekluse, lhrb, pwk and many other upgrades. This was my first bike when I returned to dirt riding 5 years ago after a 30 year hiatus. I've ridden the wheels off this bike, been through 1 bottom end, 5 top ends and more consumable parts than I can keep track of. The bike has been great for me and never let me down but it is an 11 year old dirt bike. I ride singletrack, enduros and this year started doing some xc. Came up from beginner now to Supervet B running respectable times mid pack.
While the cr is a great bike, I'm seeing great deals on tc250's and wondering how they will compare to my cr. I also ride a cr125(wife's) and while it's fun and light, I'm not sure it is my cup of tea riding it way up on the pipe zipping through the woods. I also find the stock 125 suspension a bit harsh in the choppy stuff.
Any input on the tc or anyone who could compare the handling of the two would be great. Is there that much of a handling difference over an 11 year old frame? What weight/skill level rider is the suspension set up for? How is the power delivery. I've searched as much as I can on reviews but most are mx reviews.

I may not be much help as I don't have a 2012 TC250 but I have the 2010 TC 250 and love the handling. The power is also good and the bike has a way of allowing me to use what it has without being to much for me. I'm more of a MX and open trail rider and thats were the TC feels really good. My son takes it through our 8.5 mike single trail and say's it does really well there too. I can't say how a 2012 TC would compare to your CR250 but from all I've read the 2012 TC250 is better than my 2010 TC250 so it's gotta be an awesome bike.

Sounds alot like my story ....

My 02 CR250 was just a beast ...

Any of the new 250\310 4ts machine turn well and handle good overall ... Plus the 012 TC250 have all the mods (as far as I know) for the EFI stuff and should work AOK ... I've got 2 010 TC250s and a 012 TC250 that is not delivered yet so I've not ridden one yet...

Have you ridden any of the Husky xlite engine bikes? One ride and you should know if you want one or not ...

--

Most of the reviews same the power is down a couple horses ... My 010s have all I need but I'm not a pro rider or anywhere close ... When I'm beaten on my bike, its the rider ...

I'm really torn. Deals are out there NOW. I've never riden an xlite bike so I have nothing to go on. I'm also thinking I should consider a road plated bike as some enduros require it. Met a guy on the weekend at a local xc with a 12 txc250. He says next time he would go the 310.

TCs are quite a bit snappier than TXCs from my experience. If I was to get a TXC I would go with the 13 to get the new head and Keihin injection. I had a TC250 and it will go down as one of my fav bikes ever.

I am off the whole plate thing. The Beagle Bash and the Terra Nova are the only 2 enduros needing a plate and I honestly think that 2013 will be the last year for the Terra Nova. I green plated my bike for the first time ever this year.

Your biggest problem may not be deciding if you want a new bike, but actually finding one. The 13s are drying up FAST with the current rebates. Most dealers are out of the popular models.

TE models have the plate but are more detuned I think for the EPA stuff ... They can have the ECU re-flashed and the EFI ungraded and you have a TXC running engine ... More confusion?

I had never ridden a modern 4t till my 08 TXC250 .. After all I had read on a 4t machine, I thought all you had to do was twist the throttle and 100% traction ... Not so on that bike or on my 010 TC 250s ... Still gotta control the bike and traction with the clutch ,...Nothing like what is needed on my 08 WR250 or my 02 CR250 ... These engines are snappy and REV pretty quick but again, nothing like a 2T snarl ... They are much easier to ride fast than a 2t machine but you gotta get used to the engine braking as part of the total package of riding the bike ... And a 4t engine is as easy to ride slow as honda cub 50. Gets better gas mileage also when ridden slow ...

-- It will be lighter and turn quicker than that CR ... I have an 08 WR250 now and it is fun to ride ... The TC model bikes are fun to ride also but in a different way ... You have to decide on what ride you want ...

~Everyone wants to go bigger ... Nothing new there

EDIT: U should have ridden that 012 TXC ...

I just pick up a 2013 TC250 on Friday from Halls, I had a 06 CR125 (Eric Gorr 144) a few years ago which is what turned me on to modern Husky's. I fell in love with the handling, I really like how tall the bikes are but they still rail corners. I'm happy to report my TC turns the same way! The power is not lacking either, maybe a little soft on the bottom compared to my 06 KXF I had but nothing like MXA reported which said the bike was slow. I did get the 51 tooth sprocket and will be trying it soon (This should help me pull 3rd gear in corners) Honestly after reading some test on the TC I was expecting the motor to be the weak point on the bike and as far as I'm concern that is just not the case, it's really a sweet motor. It did take me a about 2 sessions to get used the instead throttle response the EFI gives the bike and the brakes OHHHHHHH the brakes they are soooo sweet ! I'm still playing around with clickers on the forks and might take 20cc oil out of the forks like MXA suggested, as far as I'm concern I really could not be happier with the bike! Husky has such awesome deals on these bikes I hope to see more TC's at the tracks

I hear ya brother .... I had a 08 TXC250, great bike also ...Then I got 2 010 TC250s, Xlite engine, new frame ... Same Husky big bike feeling in the saddle and the turning was really cool and easy to perform ... Front brake is PRO caliber ... I'd really like a 52T on the rear but will try the 12T up front first ... One bike has stock suspension and is only great for me ... I just open or close clickers a few clicks when on the track or trails ... These are just very cool dirt bikes ... I hardly ever pin the throttle so I've got plenty of power ... Its just the 5sped is alittle spacey in the woods so don't shift up too quickly ..

I rode the 2012 TC250 and it was a great woods bike.

The motor was smooth and fast and as noted, the brakes were excellent.

I too found the front end a little harsh and it was a demo bike so I think it had too much sag in the rear for my 200#..I dropped the front end and backed out the clickers and it was still a little harsh and chopperish.

I'm sure it can be adjusted out.

It kickstarted easy and the lack of E-Start means the E-start won't ever give you trouble like the TE and TXC.

I'd buy one.

for what its worth i too have been looking and trying to decide and talking to my buddies who race offroad style events the general concensious is get the 310 as its more up to par with the power of the 250f's. the 250 husky is down on power to the tune of 20cc's or so they say.
