• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Clutch Issue

Hi Guys,

I have a SM 610 and it drags while release the clutch in the first gear. it feels like the clutch places are slipping. Hence i changed the complete clutch assembely... but the issue persists. Any advise or suggestion what would be wrong?

610's are cable clutch, is the clutch cable adjust too tightly, keeping the clutch from fully engaging?
When you replaced the clutches, did you replace the bronze clutch bushing behind the basket? They are known to get a little sloppy and cause some play in the clutch housing.

Hi,
I currently have the exact same problem. The mechanic just informed me that the clutch basket is worn out, and a new one is needed:mad:
Gonna cost me R5K for a new one ($625), that's after I spent about $2500 to overhaul the engine after dropping it in the drink.

610's use the same clutch baskets as some other Huskys, it's hard to believe a common factory clutch basket costs that much. Have you shopped around, and does that include labor?

can i jump in here too please with a clutch problem!

my oem clutch cable recently broke and i had a couple of new cables made up. my problem is now to get the clutch to work properly (ie to be able to shift through the gears smoothly with the clutch in) i have to have the cable adjusted right to the very end at the engine and on the handle bars. im sure the oem cable wasnt adjusted this far and now the clutch is also very heavy. i have checked and the stroke of the new cable is identical to the oem one.

any idea what could be going on??

With regards to your clutch hub, check for wear along the fingers caused by the plates if they are not too heavily scored file them down gently and smooth it out. This will prolong replacement considerably

Bensl,
Is your cable routing correct. Sometimes that can make a huge difference in pull. Also, did you get a quality cable and pre-lube it? I would suggest pulling the cable off and seeing if it is ok. Hope this helps. Cam.

thanks Cam. i am pretty sure it followed the original routing pretty closely but i will try re-routing and see if that helps. the cable looked ok (im no expert) but was a bit narrower than the original. i didnt lube it, i didnt realise it was required.

cheers

Don't use any kind of sticky lube, I usually use graphite. Also, don't over-constrain the cable. Too many zip ties keeps the cable from going where it wants to, just make sure it's off the hot or moving stuff.

And about the adjustment, that just sounds like your cable guy left the cable too long for the sleeve or the cable is stretching more than the factory one.

What is the best cable routing?

I bought my bike used so I'm not sure of which is correct,,,

Thanks
