So I'm supposed to be in Baja this weekend, sippin' Margarita's and riding my TC. I've done a lot of prep work for this trip, replacing many parts, and fixing/upgrading others. I finished up the "last" of the prep work Friday and just needed a test ride to make sure everything was working happily. The sun finally broke this morning after a week + of rain, so today was the day! Got my gear on and decided to do a few runs around the block first before packing up and heading down to Hollister Hills for the day. Started her up, put her in gear, hit the gas...and nothing. No drive at all...humm. Tried second gear, nothing, back into first (figured I was crazy at this point) but still nothing. OK, so no test ride today.
I push her back into the garage and start to look her over. Obvious stuff first, clutch res. It's full, but I've still got no feeling there. I recently removed a rekluse that the P.O. had on the bike because 1) I needed the ability to bump start in Baja and 2) the clutch had no feeling at all which weirded me out a bit. Anyway, to make a long story short I proceeded to:
A) try to bleed the clutch normally and nothing but constant bubbles coming up. Back bleed and I get pressure for one pull, then it goes away.
B) pull the clutch assembly measure all the steel plates (they are in spec), all the friction disks look good too.
C) try bleeding the clutch again using a vacuum pump, still no good.
D) Check the throw out and rod to be sure I didn't put the old rekluse stuff in there by accident (I didn't).
E) Decided to pull the clutch slave cover and found this:
and this
These two still look ok...
I know this is the reason for the clutch not working correctly, So I ordered the new cover from ZipTyRacing (which I'm hoping will fit 'cause my bike is an '04 which is not listed on their website
) and the Piston from 7602 Racing. My question is this, will this also cause me to have no drive? My reasoning tells me that my clutch should have been fully engaged with the piston like this not the other way around? Should I be digging deeper for yet another issue or can I assume that this is the total problem? I really REALLY do not want to cancel this trip, but I'm supposed to be driving by friday and things are not looking good...
