• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

clutch cover for 2004 te450 wanted

You can get billet units made by 7062 racing. they are a sponsor on here. They even have a sight glass for the oil so you don't have to remove that screw to check oil height. just bought one for $150. Factory ones can be had on ebay as well. Though you'll have the same crack prone unit you have now.

its the big one though not the small round one? got any links?

so what you want is the actual outer case, and not a clutch cover. The round unit is the clutch cover. The big unit that encompasses the clutch, oil filter etc, thats the outer right hand case. Very common to break this from using the kick starter. regardless, no one makes that but oem. you can fine someone parting out a motor on here or ebay and get the case. You can buy the clutch cover in a stronger billet unit from 7602 racing. The link for the page is here. bout half way down the page.

thanks for that. tgat was my understanding too but when i wanted a gasket for the outer case i needed to oeder a clutxh cover gasket? go figure. i guess i will phone the dealer amd see hoe muxh theyre going to have my pants down by.

Yeah, husky would call it a right hand cover. They do stuff like that to confuse poor fellows like us and the parts people trying to sell us parts. Part number for a 2004 model is
80A0 99172. Price here in america is $263.25
I'd try and find one used, and then don't use the kick starter if you can avoid it.

thabks for that. yes i think new is out of the question and cant find one used for love nor money. might try and tig it.

you put a wanted ad in the classifieds section? there was a guy parting out a 2007 250 model for awhile. Dunno if he still has that part but I bought some stuff from him. otherwise stick to ebay and something should show up. getting the part tig welded should fix it if repaired correctly. I still wouldn't use the kick starter though. You'll rip it wide open like all the other guys on here.

It really is a pretty apailing design flaw. can the kickstsart shaft be removed easily? and then the hole blanked off? thsnns for your input

yes, I agree. considering these motors are supposed to be pretty bullet proof otherwise, it really is a VERY poor design flaw. I sit here and talk about how nice the husky is, but in reality, my bikes can't even be started without a button. It's pathetic really. regardless, you can remove the entire kicker assembly, and run only electric start quite easily. they make a plate that covers the kicker hole if you wanted to run e start only. that seems foolish considering the small battery. I would keep the kicker, in the event you absolutely need it. i would simply never use it except for emergency conditions.

I talked with Bill Farrell (BMP) about this problem and some years are more prone to have this happen. He has done lot of work on the various years and followed the problem and changes from the factory. What I recall is it is caused by the end play of the shaft and binding. Make sure the kicker feels smooth and returns smoothly.

truth be told my kicker doesnt return. it used to before i took the cover off to jb weld the casing but after reasembly it does not. im guessing a new casig is going ri cost me somewhere around £150 sterling. for the sake of getting my mate to come with a trailer i think id sooner not bother with it. bike has never failed me on the buttonm

They did make a revised kicker assembly to remedy the problematic years you're referring to. The updated parts are now the only assemblies you can buy from husky. I looked into this for my electric start only bike. Thinking I would want some form of back up if the e start failed. The problem still happens even with the update. There is a thread elsewhere in the forums about other members, from all years and models talking about ripping their cases wide open when kicking. Eh, ce la vie.
