  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Clutch Basket

spud1968

Husqvarna
AA Class
Mine is worn the petals/fingers have grooves from the plates are rattling. Do you know if a 2008 clutch basket will fit a 2009 bike?.....Or have there been any changes to the clutch basket in the last 5 years?

I won the clutch basket off fleebay.:D

The new basket has no cogs/gears fitted to it. The cogs/gears on my bike will therefore need refitting to the new clutch basket and i've a few questions:

1) The rivots holding the cogs/gears on my clutch basket can I use any rivet and gun to fix these to the new basket?.....or do i need a special husky tool and special husky rivets?
2) Do you know the torque settings for the clutch springs and the big centre nut?
3) How do you remove the clutch centre nut with out having the whole clutch spin/move? I've got the use of an air gun racket will this be enough, or do i use a spanner/screwdriver/coin to lock the clutch in position then undo the clutch nut?
4) do i re-use the flexible coupling?
5) have you any disassmble videos of this clutch?

the basket should come with screws to fasten the gear on.

They need loctite and to be peened over to keep them from backing out.

You can use an airgun to remove the basket after you bend back the locking tab on the bolt.

you should get a clutch holder tool to tighten the bolt though.

Sorry to restart this thread.......The basket comes with rivets I've not separated the clutch basket from its primary drive i'm going to give the basket to a machine shop to grind the old rivets out and press the new rivets in. According to the parts list i should have a flexable couplings part number:

8000 31378 and like the rivets there are six of these. Has anyone any experience of these flexable couplings and what they do?

They are rubber dampeners that absorb stresses that would otherwise be placed on the transmission gears.

Do you know what cush drive is? They work the same way.

They do degrade over time and obviously they are not easy to replace so buy new ones if you can afford it.

you can file the worst of those out but its definatly not the worst ive seen.
i wouldnt worry unless the clutch is grabbing excessivly.
im sure ive just opend myself up to abuse but i would still shuv a load more hours on that bad boy.

that suckers toast! chuck it! ive seen worse come out. but if i had another lined up i wouldnt reinstall that one!

filing fingers is tricky. best to deburr only. taking them notches down to smooth opens a lot of doors for a lot of trouble.

hi pips, cheers mate, weeeee!!! :D :p

Thanks guys, just to say I have considered filing the wear down of those pedals/fingers the gap is 1.5mm, but it should be closer to 0.5mm so its deffo a new basket. Are the cush-drives the same on another bike and where can i get some quickly delivered to the UK?

mine looks exactly the same when i overhauled my engine and as i am in a corner of the world it is not that easy to get one I did file the groves out and ordered a new one in America Big thanks to walt:notworthy:

I have it now in my possession and its scheduled to change out next month

did get about 10 hours of OK clutch before it starts dragging again in the gears.

filing out is a quick fix to limp home on a tour or getting less then 10 more rides out of it, better to replace quick when you can

ahh well i guess my resale value is out of the window, but tbh ive never sold on a machine i always get every ounce of life out of the buggers.

Back when Howerton- I think he was a Texan- was kicking ass in US MX he needed a new clutch every moto.
I recall someone noting the bike was always moaning in 3rd or 4th gear;{presume clutch ABUSE]-Howerton was at the front.

Update: my local dealer has said there are no cush-drives at the factory and he's non in stock!.....i'm racing early February:banghead:

check the web (halls or bills) advertized on this forum.

the parts are so small that they will fit in a normal envelope through the post

ditto. i always get made fun for having tires with knobs missing and cords showing during the dry season. they work better that way on hardpan, save the knobbed hoops for the muck n stuff's my rule!
