• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Clutch basket questions

RickyDZero

Husqvarna
AA Class
I am putting my 86 xc 400 back together and ran into this problem. I put an 87 Transmission in
it, which means the shaft has a nut rather than the clip the 86 shaft had. Also the clutch basket
has 6 bolts instead of 5. I got the 87 clutch basket in it which is bigger than the 86 unit. The problem is the clutch basket hits the clutch cover. I did not think the clutch cover would be different from 86 to 87 am I wrong? Do they make the smaller 5 bolt for the 87.

The clutch cover on the '87 is wider to clear the wider clutch. I believe the clutch has one more clutch plate and fiber disc in the '87 clutch.

If you find a 2 piece clutch cover from any of the 400/610 4 strokes with kickstart only (not eletric start versions) up to at least 2000 but maybe 2002 then it will fit the 6 bolt clutch. Or get them from HVA in the Uk.

that is correct. water pump on those Italian 4 strokes that used the Swedish bottom end drove the water pump differently
2 piecer will work for an AC swede but not a WC

Yes, but the shaft spline is different

which shaft are you referring to?
the transmission main shaft spline stayed the same from 82-99 if you count the 4 strokes, unless there is something I am unaware of
and it seems I always learn something, which is good, due to being humbling

You are right 2premo the splines are the same. It looks like my old clutch hub was used for a hammer (just like other internal parts). So I went to see Rick at the Motocenter here in Yakima. He traded me a 5 bolt clutch assembly for the 6 bolt. Only thing he suggested we do is machine the inner hub to get a better bite for the nut that replaced the lock clip on the older models. Thanks one and all for your help. That's why I love this site:cheers:.

Are you going to drill extra oil holes in the inner basket we're the plates ride? This allows more oil in the clutch plates?
