• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Clarke 2.2 Gallon Tank report

WIN_20170112_154822.JPG I thought I would pass on my Tank I just put together. The Tank is a Clarke from Oregon USA. The side Decals are from e-bay or Jery Montgomery Montgojk1@aol.com . They are more pliable than others I have used. These side decals do not have the Pin Stripes on them they need to be added next. I used 1/4" 3M stripe. Then over the Top I used reproduction clear tank savers the same as the ones sold back in the day for the Original Tanks. Since they are just clear they could be just cut out of some 3M material any shape You would want. All said it probably didn't take much more than an hour to apply the Decals. Because the 2.2 is a little smaller than the original I trimmed the Decals a bit on the back side. As this bike is used as a rider I don't have to be concerned about ruining an original tank. The Tank in my regular picture is the 3.3 version. So far I have never had any issues with Fuel bleeding threw and ruining the Decals. I try to drain the Fuel after each ride and not store it in the Tank. The biggest give away that its not an original Tank is the Black Plastic Cap that's in the middle.

Looks great. Is the tank painted red? Have you done anything to seal the tank to stop the stickers bubbling?

Great looking bike and well done on the tank, are the side panels available off the shelf ? Would like those panels and a stainless steel tank for my 83 if they can be made to fit.

Sealing the inside with Caswell will prevent the bubbling. Anything else that is not 2 part will dissolve from the ethanol in the fuel.

I've used the Caswell on a few fibreglass and steel tanks...but I'm not sure it will adhere to plastic tanks...better double check with them if you want to give it a try.

No, the Tank is not painted it the natural Red Color of the Plastic. If you go to Clarkes Web sight it looks as though the tank only comes in White. They make the Tanks to order, in other words when You order it they make it, and You can get it in any color You want. The side panels are intended for somebody restoring an original Tank, not a Plastic one. In other words it allows You to use body filler to repair a dent, and then cover it up with the Decal. the ones I used are available on the above mentioned web sight. There are others available to. I have some of the Caswell Sealer, and I can't remember if I used it on the last tank I did or not. The last tank has had no Fuel bleed through what so ever. The modern aftermarket tanks might be a bit better than the in this regard than the tanks of the past. I think draining the tank after each ride is the secret to keeping the Decals, and it just encourages something that should be done anyway.

The red clark tank i have (nonhusky) is way thicker than many stock plastic tanks. I think
that helps them with gas bleeding through or not bleeding through i should say.

Wow what great bunch of info. Tank looks great and from the description I'd say you've come up with an excellent riding tank for these great evo bikes. If there were a tech section specifically for mods this one should be part of it.

I'm interested in the total cost including the tank and all the decals, care to share?

I see the Tank is $240 . They have something new if You sign up with them You can get dealer pricing, what ever that is. I think I paid around $200. The side decals were $50 and the rest of them probably another $50.

I have a new Clarke (3.3) tank as well and I love the chrome decals you put on yours! The gold Husky decals I put on this tank have already started to bubble. I'm going home today and going to drain the tank from now on to prevent the bubbling. Clarke is a real pleasure to do business with, I highly recommend. IMG_2566.JPG

What a great way to have a nice looking tank on these awesome old scooters. Restoring the stock tank is painful to the wallet, and painful to the soul if you actually want a rider. Thanks for sharing.
