• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Choke sticking up on the Lectron.

Guys and Gals,

I had a problem with my 36mm Lectron on this weekends ride of my 2012 WR300. The choke stuck up on my the first ride of the day. I thought I had pushed the choke down before taking off with my buddies but as I rode about a 1/8 to a 1/4 of a mile, I could tell the choke was still on as the bike warmed up and started to run super rich. I tried to push it down as I rode but it seemed stuck. Pulled over and got a good look at it, and sure enough it was stuck in the up position. After rotating the knob and pushing and pulling I got it to come down. I didn't want to come back down without some tender loving care. I got back on and fired up the bike to catch up to my buddies, bike seemed back to normal. I got a good look at it on our first break and it seemed like it was still slightly still up. My wr300 has benefited greatly from the Lectron with starting and nice torque power.

I remember someone having an issue with the rubber choke boot displacing, moving off its seat, and causing some slight rich problems. I had to do a couple of full throttle flood starts to fire up the wr300. That was a new one on the Lectron.

I did a search but could not where some else had this similar problem.

Any ideas or mods that might address this issue.

I plan on taking off the the Lectron and giving it a good once over with some carb cleaner. Any tips on the choke circuit. I think I'll go a couple of clicks leaner on the needle also. I've gone two clicks leaner from stock delivery and got rid of the pipe splooge problem. Seems to run great so it hasn't really been a pressing issue and my riding partners get ants in their pants in the pits, so trail maintenance just doesn't happen much.

I'll give it some TLC on the choke.

They can be a little tight when new. Makes sure it is clean and cycle it a few times to make sure it stays up and goes all the way back down. EZ to unscrew it from the carb and look at it to if you need to.

Mine was super tight when new. I thought I was going to break it at times... If it got to a point I was struggling, I would shut the bike off, then pull it up and push it down, turn it, spit on it, you get the point. Now it works great. hahaha.

That's funny. This evening I went for ride and upon the initial start up I had the opposite issue. The choke plunger wouldn't stay up. I had to prop it up in order to get started. Haven't taken it apart to inspect yet. Has this happened to anyone else?

PM me your address, I have the rubber boot top fix that issue. There was a small batch of ones that did not fit tight enough.

I had that problem when I had a Lectron, too.

I had that problem also

I'm wondering if my Lectron chke is fully going down. I've attached photos of the Lectron in the up and down positions. One thing I did notice is that the choke seems to swim or wobble in the up position. That might be perfectly fine just not sure.

Looks right to me. Run fine?

Having a little problem with stalls in low speed areas and the wr300 seems to be loading up on tight AA enduro creek
sections. The bike is running good on open cross country trails as I can open up the throttle and get on the gas. I'm having a slight flame out problem on sudden heavy braking. (that might be the grabby small solid roter)I am getting close just wondering if the choke is slightly open and causing these low speed issues.

Have you adjusted the idle properly?

Yes, adjust the idle. Also it is really EZ to unscrew and take the choke out and make sure it is clean and seating right.

My choke has felt a little bit "mysterious" to me too but like Kelly says it's easy to take apart to check out.
I think I rounded the edges a bit with some crocus cloth and applied some silicone grease which made the action smoother and more positive.

Can someone tell me how to get the plunger itself apart to replace the outer rubber. I've had the unit unscrewed from the carb just unsure of how to get it apart. Thanks
