• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

China Hat???

I did not get signed up soon enough but might go down there anyway and see friends / take pix / ride / DS.

I usually go, but not this year. Going to the Seattle SX with the family and some friends instead.

Be sure to ride trail 63 through the lava fields and get down to the ice caves unless its still snowed in. We went in early March and 70% of the place was still under snow and ice.

Still had a blast

Have fun, be safe!

I'm not going to the sx, or any sx ever again. Too loud, too lame. Maybe I'll check out an outdoor mx someday.

Tresa will have 7 weeks of healing on her broken ankle, so she's ready to rip. She's surprisingly strong until we get to real awkward technical stuff, but fortunately there isn't really any of that at china hat.

My suspension should be back from LT racing today, so hoping to get it all together, test for a day or 2 and race the might wr300 this weekend.

I've been keeping an eye on the forecast too. It looks to be somewhat cool -- 50-60s and possible some moisture. Rain early in the week for sure -- hopefully it will stay a bit moist.

Game on.

Sounds like you need to take a trip to Washougal this summer. And I agree about SX.

china hat was awesome this year!

+1 -- Fantastic race. Nearly ideal conditions.

And a mini-tornado that flipped a pop-up trailer****************************************

fantastic conditions for the first lap, and the mighty wr300 was working awesome. I was having probably my best race ever and looking forward to the 2nd lap where I always do much much better. But tresa broke her ankle pretty badly and the emt's flagged me down while i was gassing up after lap 1. So i took her to the hospital and waited while she had surgery instead. Maybe next year will go better.

No doubt.
2 broken ankles in 2 months. That's harsh!

Was it the same ankle?

same ankle, different bones tho.

not sure i really believe in luck. I know when i crash it's a mistake on my part, not luck (unless someone just runs into me and takes me out).

I thought the race was fantastic -- conditions were nearly ideal. Afternoon got a touch dusty - but that is nitpicking. I thought the course was marked great and thought I was going to miss the "Danger" markings like they have at most other events. Turned out to be a complete non issue.

I rode Senior B and thought the time schedules were "aggressive" -- more so on the first loop. After the start I had trouble moving past slower riders -- they hadn't figured it out yet is my guess. At first I was sort of content to plod along -- assuming we'd have plenty of time. 1/2 way to Check 1 I realized it was going to be tight and got on the gas. Made it by about 2 minutes. Nobody waiting -- yikes.

1st test was nice and twisty -- felt good. 2nd test was fast -- almost wish I had more gears but afraid to go much faster anyways. Passed 5 or so riders per test. A few minutes early to check 2 and 10 minutes early to gas.

Got gas and heard about velo's partner issues. Took off on the second loop and immediately got worked by the whoops. Some of the trail on the second loop was the nicest I'd seen, but the whoops were wearing me down. Third test was whoops followed by really excellent twisties followed by whoops. Didn't do so hot in the whoops. Got there 5 or so minutes early to each check.

4th test was a complete blast. Got a second wind and had a lot of fun. Felt like I was going fast. Came out of the test at 85 miles -- 10 to go. For kicks -- LOBOS MC through in 5 miles of rocks. I was tired by then and just wanted to make it home safe -- so I slowed wau down and trailrode conservatively in and finished about 7 minutes early.

Great event -- looking forward to next year. Now -- where are the results at?
