This issue has been slowly creeping up on me over the past week or so. I don't ride my SMS630 but 4 miles to-and-from work and I have noticed that after a couple weeks the bike would seem to take a lot of effort to turn over at the end of the day. So I would put her on a battery tender on the weekends.
I have had this type of thing happen before with a vehicle that I did the to-and-from work route before, or at least I thought. Now if the bike runs for over 20 minutes my battery voltage is so low (<9v) that the bike is shut off it won't turn over unless I use my battery tender to nudge it into cooperation.
I thought that it was a faulty battery. I was getting frustrated at the fact that the bike has <1600 miles on it and only 6 months old and I was having electrical issues, so I yanked the battery out to exchange it for a new on and I notice a little harness on the right side was positioned under my battery…. When I say positioned, I mean that it had to have been there from the factory/dealer because the battery had never been out of the bike.
I'm guessing that that goes to the voltage rectifier. Either way, by removing the battery I found a torn through harness and I found that my rubber strap that once held my battery in place decided it no longer wanted to be a part of my Husky and took the tab that held it to the subframe with it on its journey.
I was thinking I found the problem so I proceded to splice in new wires on the rectifier. To be specific, it was the 12 gauge red wire and one of the smaller yellow wires that were torn through.
Thinking life was grand again, I let my battery sit on the tender for the remainder of the day. The next day I installed the battery and hooked up a volt meter and took a trip around the block to plot the voltage. Every 15-20 seconds of riding at any RPM the battery voltage would drop .01-.02volts until the voltage was low enough for the bike to start missing.
Now, I know that my bike is still under warranty but my question is this: Would a BMW motorcycle repair facility be able to do warranty work or order parts for Husky's? Reason asking is that the nearest Husky dealer is in Riverside, CA and I'm in Las Vegas….
Any help would be greatly appreciated
