• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

There is not a lot of riding here yet - no trails at the moment.
  • What: ride a bit, burn in some trails, plan trails, possibly a tiny amount of work. I'll provide lunch - assuming not too many people show up. Exact plans will be determined by how much rain comes down before then.
  • When: Sunday Feb 10th 2013 about 10am to 4pm
  • Who: at the moment 2 people have said they will make it other than myself.
  • Why: have fun... and to determine if there is any interest at all in some type of gathering here (the place really is on the cusp of being large enough).
  • Where: About 1/2 hour from Napa CA, or about 1/2 from Winters CA. Exact directions will be sent to those who can make it.
For those people who would find this date to be inconvenient but want to come, this event is not a big deal at all, there will be others.

Sounds good! Pretty sure I can make it.

I'll be in AZ with family... will try to make round two !
It would be a loooonnnnggg way for you to come.

Later in the year, when the weather is much more predictable, there will be much more notice given and whoever wants to camp out will have much better weather.

I think he's asking if you are extra friendly?
If that is the question, then no. I am not, nor ever will be, 'extra friendly'.

Proud father of 3 wonderful kids, and will most probably attain grandfather status in the next several years.

I've absolutely *no* idea why people ask that question to everyone that lives within 100 miles of a certain city.

I'd rate Dean as probably just about right friendly, but I had no idea he lived that close to "that city". No offense intended WC.:)

I've been spending a third of my life in SF for the last 20 years and I just bought 2 skirts and some unmentionables yesterday :)
It's not contagious!

Or it's the never ending NorCal vs SoCal 'civil war'

Yes... that silly thing.

Over many years, anytime I have ventured north I have seen a certain tone that I have never understood from my more northern neighbors. When I suggested I'd be all in to commute the 7 hours to come pitch in I didn't get the warm and fuzzies... so the question I posed ? Was tryng to be subtle... not vague... sorry for that.

I like excuses to go on adventures... like meeting new people.... like riding other places... like making connections in other cities and states... like recipricating when folks wanna come to my neck of the woods (or desert).

Regards... Jeff

I see... Well the first several decades of my life was spent in the Midwest, then I spent decades in California. I'm fairly certain the other 3 people that have said they will be here on the 10th in addition to myself would fall into the category of 'good people with no attitude' - which is the category of people I like to be with, like Xcuvator and his family from Oregon. You may find that to be more prevalent on Cafe Husky than other places on the internet (not sure).

You are most warmly welcome to come, and there is a lot of places to camp here, or a spare bed if that is all you need - but depending on the weather, a tent may be warmer than the spare bedroom (wood stove heating only). On the other hand, the days will be longer & warmer in the coming months when there will probably be other opportunities - depending on how things work out.

The reason for this thread as stated in the first post, is to have a bit of fun and to get more feedback from more people as to the viability of this location to be used as for a West Coast Gathering. I still cannot decide, and that would only be after we figure out where to put the trails, and make them. I am on a ranch best described as 100 acres (which sounds tiny), but has a incredibly diverse terrain.

EDIT: after thinking about it, maybe you want to help decide where to put trails?

I think the west gathering should be in Colorado lol. California, Washington, Oregon, and Moab are on my dream ride list! Sounds great to me! I hope you all have fun while finding some great new routes!
