  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Carter vent leaking oil

Abelma

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi, I would like to know if somebody has the same issue as me. I have an 83 CR500 and when I ride in deep sand and highs revs a lot of time, oil from the carter is going up into the vent tube and oil coming out. In normal tracks, where I dont rev too much too much time, is not a problem. Thanks

how much oil are you running in transmission?

how thick is the oil?

it seems if the oil is too thick or too high in the transmission in can overflow..

inspect your seals, you can do a 2T crankcase pressure test- seal exhaust and intake to do a crank seal pressure check- you can find this technique on the intertube.
she may be having a crank seal leak - crankcase pressure past the shaft seal into the gearbox pressurizing the gearbox, but many time these work both ways so also you get gearbox oil sucking into the bottom end causing extra oil in the burn/bottom end mix.

BTW for those here that don't know it the Carter=Crankcase in Euro speak.

try going to ATF - F for the gearbox. check its the correct amount. if your carter side gbox seal is gone, you will look like a cruise missile on full boost....a smoke trail that will smell like gearbox oil. ive seen this on cold mornings with some oils, they aerate but until they warm right up, they cant bubble out and the oil goes up the pipe for awhile.
