• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Carbon fiber/Kevlar pipe guards, heat shields and skid plates

BlipBlip!

Husqvarna
AA Class
Anyway a good friend of mine and a key member of Team USAs ISDE effort manufactures these really cool Carbon fiber/Kevlar pipe guards, heat shields and skid plates. You might have seen the stuff over on Thumpertalk.com and HuskyTalk.com

Anyway the company is called P3 for Pirie Performance Products and the stuff is as bitching as ever. (real nice way to bling your machine out and yes it protects it as well. Anyway the only reason he started doing Husqvarna stuff is because I was all over him to do it.

Currently he manufactures Carbon fiber/Kevlar pipe guards, heat shields and skid plates for all 2004 through 2007 TE, SM and TC models as well as 2008 through 2009 TE, TC, SM and TXC models.

He also has pipe guards for Husqvarna CR and WR 250s and 125s

Cool stuff for sure check out P3's website at http://www.pirieperfprod.com

Pretty cool stuff for Huskys for sure!

P3 stuff is excellent. I have E-Line stuff from when Lindsey Pirie made it for Kevin Hines(E-line has since move production off shore). A bonus is that Lindsey really gives back to the sport, a cool guy!

Those are fine looking pieces but I personally wouldn't cover up the TXC's Ti exhaust.

I wish they would do an 08 TE tank!

Lindsey built some beautiful Husky 2 stroke tanks in '00 for Team Husky off road before the IMS tanks came out. I think he got tired of being an unpaid pattern maker for other tank companies.

I stop in at least once every two weeks or so.

The process of building these tanks is a work of art and is definitely old style.

He starts out with a square 30 gallon tub of water that has gallon and ounce marks on the side... the tub is half full so when he puts the tank in it tells him where he is capacity wise... this is how he knows what he's shooting for. He then does the initial measurement so he has a base point to work from.

At that point the tank goes back on to the frame and he starts adding clay to the exterior of the tank in all the places where he wants the fuel to be carried... usually real low and under the tank as well as inside the frame rail and cylinder area under. This way he can keep the tank low and slim.

The tank then comes off the bike and back in the water tub to see just how much fuel he's added.... from there it's back on the frame for additional fine tuning.

Once he get the prototype mockup tank roughed up... he then starts sculpturing the tank and final clean-up to it's final finished shape. At that point it comes of the bike for fine sanding so the prototype mock-up can be painted for presentation to the factory race teams for rider comment. usually he nails it the first time. On a side note: I was once at a GNCC were one of the mock-up was being delivered to team Suzuki for rider in-put and within minutes there were 50 people standing around marveling at the prototype and most all of them were from team Kawasaki, team Yamaha and team KTM.

Once approved he starts building the molds from the prototype mock-up which in some instances can be in six parts different parts. sides, bottom, front, and top where the quick-fill goes.

He then layers each section with carbon fiber, kevlar and fiberglass and each section is build separately, in the end everything fits together like a kids jigsaw puzzle.

After he has all six pieces built, he combines them into one tank using shredded carbon fiber, kevlar and fiberglass as well as some special epoxy.

When everything is sanded, cleaned up and polished it's gets painted with black gel-coat... packaged-up and sent to the race team.

Oh ya...this is the end result: http://www.pirieperfprod.com/p3fueltanks.html

You would if it was burning/melting the $#!^ out of your gear.

I have a Motosportz shield and I gave up my trendy baggy dirt pants for some old school MX pants. Last year I melted the right side on my '07 TE and this year it was the left side on the TXC.

I also have the Motosportz heat guard, but I have melted my pants on the right side of my pants pocket and just inside the left upper knee on the header pipes. Both of these areas would have been burned with old school MX pants. Anyway, I would feel much much better/safer with that branding iron covered!

I think it's time to order the P3 header shield. I now have 2 pairs of melted pants. I have melted holes in the outside right leg while standing on the left side bull dogging the bike through tight stuff.

I've got the skid plate and really like it. I think I'm going to order the pipe shields, too.

We need to talk him into building a tank for the TE's. Need something designed for the EFI pump with a baffle so fuel will stay back by the pump when the tank level is low. I'm find this to be a problem in racing conditions.

How do those skidplates hold up to rocks? I just imagine them exploding or at least cracking...:D

I've been using CF plates for 10 years and they are doing fine. I just rock tested this one this weekend.

+1.....I want some functional bling for my TE610.

Except, of course, I have the faster and more genuine blue and yellow TE610.

:p

hey there,

on my search for an exhaust guard for my TE 310 to prevent damages on the pants and boots I found you guys and this topic.

Now I was wondering if the P3 boot guard also prevents the airbox agains the heat of the muffler. Does anybode have some pictures (inner and outer side) of the guard when it is not mounted on the bike?

Nice board by the way.

Cheers
Bernie
