  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

125-200cc Can not get my Lectron wr165 to start well

So I have about 6 ride on my WR 165 and bike is set up great so far with a few needle adjustments. No bogging down low and will lug like crazy even in wrong gear. My only thing is I can not get it to start consisntlty in gear. In are off-road race series it a standing dead engine start while holding back or front fender. My 2008 cr165 bike set up just like my 2013 wr165 would start in 2 gear every time just pull in clutch and kick which hepled great at the start of race. If I give bike some gas while kicking sometimes it will start in gear but not always. If it does not start it will take 4 kicks with throttle 3/4 open to get it to go. This is not a general problem for just play riding but it very inportant as we all know to get a good start in any race and with old bike it did help me out a lot. The idle is set good right now when motor is warm and low end jetting is spot on not sure what else to try. Old bike I think I could start with hand if needed. I have tried adjusting clutch but not any better. Thanks for any help.image.jpg
 
With the Lectron, you won't want to give it any gas until it fires. How confident are you with the clutch adjustment and condition?
 
All huskys I have owned are hard to start in gear. They tend to have a lot of clutch drag. What does your plug look like. The only time I find Lectrons hard to start is if they are setup to rich. Is your idle turned in almost all the way to get it to idle? (another condition of the rod set to rich). Try going 1/4-1/2 turn leaner on the rod and see if that helps.

I have never been able to start mine in gear with the average stab. Like Kelly said the clutches just drag a bit. Now if I give it the "I'll kick your ass" kick it will start in gear first kick every time once warm. I also like to cycle it through two slow strokes and then kick it with no throttle. Starts first kick every time cold with that method. Only time I have to choke it cold is if I start kicking it before I "prime the pump". If it is really cold I will have to open the choke while it is first running for 5-10 seconds but then all is good. I also agree with Kelly on checking for being to rich. Mine is running the sweetest light tan and starts like that cold.
 
Clutch and bike has maybe 10 hours on it now and old 2008 bike had over 200 hours with original clutch that still worked great. But that could be why it started in gear so well was clutch was just more wore out and dragging a little less. Plug looks nice dark tan but could be tad rich compared to old bike I did discover I had a 8 plug in there and did change it to a 9 now which seems to run more crisp on old bike. Idle screw is at 1 turn out. As far as needle I leaned it out to the point where it had that lean idle sound and did flame out on quick throttle or hard lugging situations I just turn needle 1/4 turn richer again and seems perfect now. I think my 2013 wr is just to new and tight in clutch where old 2008 was a little more wore that allowed it to start in gear better. Bike need choke to start when cold but once warm and in neutral starts good. I will just need to start in neutral and lose that little time to tap in gear and let clutch out. Thanks for help.
 
Ya bike rips and thinks it a KTM200 sx. It not quite the power my 250sx makes but that to much for off road riding and tires a guy out to quick. I did not start riding old husky off road racing till it had over 150 hours and just though they all started great in gear. With bike as 165 I never slip the clutch unless on nasty slow hill climb compared to mx when I would slip old bike clutch a lot as a 125-144 . So it might take awhile to get clutch wore out again enough to start in gear which is no big deal just happy to have fun reliable bike that is like riding a mountain bike with a motor. Guess I should have added the rocks and ledges behind me to right is what we just came down fun stuff.
