  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

CA DMV Help Needed 2007 TE510 Issues

J-train

Husqvarna
AA Class
I just purchased a used TE510 from a Texas resident in the state of CA. Should have not been an issue with the CA dmv. The 07 TE510 is fully streetable and 50 state EPA compliant. I went to do the paperwork at the DMV and all was fine until the required vehicle vin verificatiion required on out of state vehicles being registered for the first time in CA, if they are a 06 or newer and have less than 7500 miles. Well the vin check went fine, the Cal/fed Emmsions label checked out fine, but..........there is also a federal safety standard certification label on the rear of the front fender. Being 6 years old and exposed to the engine heat/elemets etc, the label is almost completely illegible. You can jsut barely read the bottom lie where it says this vehicle complies with all federal safety requirments in place at time of manufacture, but thats it, the vin, build date etc is pretty bad shape. To any logical human bieng this would nto be an issue, good vin, goood epa sticker, a safety cert tag that is definatey there and one could easily tell it's legit. But alas CA rats seem to get a kick out of denying you anything even if it's a legit 50 state bike. Question is what now, how do I prove that the bike is good to go? I called Husky and they were no help as in 07 MV onwned Husy. MV's contact is in Italy, so they I am sure will have no clue.

The stickers on the front fender? I would buy a new TE front fender because I would assume that sticker comes with it if its a requirement. If it doesn't, I would trade that new fender for someone's used one with a legable sticker.

Good idea, but I believe the sticker has the VIN on it as well. At least the form they were using had them verify the vin to the sticker. I have an appointment with CHP for them to evaluate the situation, but we'll see where that goes. You would think in this day and age, there would be a no kidding electronic data base set up for this kind of thing.

Is there a CHP office near you? They are responsible for safety certifications of modified, out of state vehicles, etc. I would think that the Depraved Moronic Vehicholes must accept safety certs from the official state police agency. My buddy just got his gnarly one of a kind rock crawler jeep green stickered that way.

They should have told you that, but alas their job is to hinder and not to help. Did they tell you how much they want to bend you over for the transfer fees? And our politicians are still scratching their heads wondering why people are fleeing the state in record numbers. Here is one more reason right here, the DEDEDE MV

I'm looking at the sticker off my 07 TE 450, its on the rear fender beneath the seat. New husky replacement from Hall's did not come with the sticker. Good news is there is no VIN on this sticker but there is a spot for displacement (or I'd just give you my sticker). I believe there is a husky part no. At least for the 450 its 8B00A6896. Maybe you can just order the sticker. Pretty bad place for an item deemed so important to DMV.

DISREGARD MY RUBBISH ABOUT THE REAR FENDER

just reread your post. You don't wanna know how easy it is to have a dirt bike with a plate in Missouri. I dont have any stickers left on my front fender. Best of Luck tho. I'd check at the dealer.

I had the same problem with a 2010 TE 450 in CA. I called Husky USA and requested a letter (on Husky letterhead) stating that the bike met state emissions and federal safety standards. The letter from the president of Husky USA convinced the folks at DMV and I got my plate.

I need a high resolution picture of your Federal Safety Certification Standard Tag, probably located on the front fender tword the radiators. I want to have a reference picture to show them.

I called Husky, first thing I did ,t hey said they can't help me since I have an 07 MV bike, refered me to Cagvia/MV Agusta. No USA rep from those companies, not sure It would go anywhere if I called Italy.

Go to the CHP and get your VIN check, they are much better to deal with than the CA DMV.

I have an appointment, cause thats how they roll, lol. DO they have something they can look this thing up in? Seems there has to be a overall database somewhere. Everything is good except that one tag. I even found the original certification document on CARB's website, but it;s not emmisions they are questioning. Logic says though if something goes to the extent of passing all the emmisions crap it would automatically meet all federal safety standards. I have been in the military 20 years and have never seen this level of nitpickness attention to detail the crapifornia DMV is giving me. Like the enjoy turning pepole away. You think with the amount of dept this state has, the ywould find anyway they can to take pepoles money for things, not turn them away.

When I've dealt with the CHP, it seems like they are way more relaxed when it comes to something like that. I've registered a few new bikes in CA and have never had them even look for that sticker, the main thing they check is the emissions sticker and the VIN on the frame and motor.

Victory! CHP was very helpful. Guy was like WTF is wrong with those DMV goons. Next question: Do I need a green sticker as well, even though it's plated?

Not unless you plan to ride it stripped of it's street gear on public riding land, I would think.

No green sticker needed, in fact it's one or the other. Now you can enjoy riding all the forest service roads that have big nasty signs that say ”Street Legal Vehicles ONLY”. Street licensed can go anywhere.

Congrats!

Congratulations! The plate is all you need, the all access pass to CA forest trails!

looking for some type of aftermarket speedo to get me around the DMV requirements. it's a 2010 w less then 500 miles, but from out of state. i

I did not think of this until after, but I think I probalby could have jsut told the clerk it had more than 7500 miles and they would have never looked at the bike

I would think, that if nothing else, you could get a cheap bicycle speedometer/odometer and use a drill to run up the miles somehow?

A lot of Ca's laws make no sense and are just burocratic red tape money makers, but this one especially is stupid and was not thought out very well. 7500 for a car is no big deal but 7500 miles for a bike is a big deal. I had a 99 ZX9R that had less than that when I sold it, and it would still be conscidered a "new" vehicle if I brought it into Ca and subject to the red tape VIN validation. Husky Frk, if your 2010 is a Husky it should be a 50State bike anyway, might be just worth the pain in the ass of going through the vin inspection anyway. Even if you don't have the EPA and Fed Safety stickers in tack you probably could get it "vouched" for at the CHP inspection. They were pretty anti-red tape/anti-DMV suprisingly. I showed up in my uniform (Air Force), got the guy talking and he was cool as shit. I am goign riding now, but if I get back reasonalbe amout of time I will give you a call.
