  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Bullet proofing a TE310/250

Tinken had a good thought. What are the methods used to bullet proof a TE310/250? So far I've put on a skid plate, oil line cover, CV4 Radiator hoses, Zip Ty waterless coolant, Acerbis hand guards, Got rid of the OEM license plate holder, Seal Savers, Fork air bleeders. Any other ideas to bullet proof a bike for long days off road?

Look over everything under the tank for clearance issues and rubbing as you put on a few miles. In particular the left fuel petcock/hose and radiator hose over the water pump. The sender unit screws may be hex head and impact the radiator hose. Fractured petcock or hole in a hose might make a long day off road into an overnight hike. The tank may need to be shimmed if an issue and a lower profile screw installed. I just got a roll of Husky red Rescue Tape that will stay in my pack for emergencies also.

Mate use an iridium plug for faster starting (esp in the cold) and less battery drain.
Put at circa 100:1 ration fully syn 2 stroke oil with every tank of fuel. This cushions the top end in liu of lead and gives the top ring an extra hand. My valves have never been out of spec in my last 5 bikes.
after a ride and wash, wipe down and spray the electrics with contact cleaner.
every 3rd ride wd 40 the spoke nipples.
repack the head bearings at least annually and the swing arm twice annually.
Change oil every 500 kms max and oil filter every second oil change.
Keep an eye on the air filter and change when necessary, that can even be after each ride if it is particularly dusty. In reality I typically get 2 rides in summer and 3 in winter between air filter change overs

Good maintenance schedule advice. That sounds like a proper plan that I will heavily consider. Thank you. Where's the best riding in Australia? Always wanted to explore your country from the back of a motorcycle.
BTW, I put a CV4 radiator cap on the thing.
