In case anyone ever wondered about the fitment of the BRP chain guide on an older WR, here it is. BRP does not list that this guide will work on a 1999. Everything looked close enough so I ordered one. Mounting holes lined up perfectly. In my case I'm running a pretty large rear sprocket (don't recall if its a 52 or 54 tooth) so i trimmed about 1/4 inch from the center bottom rear of the chain guide with a dremel just to have a bit more clearance. You don't see this cosmetically either when it is mounted.
It works perfectly, less drag than the stock guide, better protection from rock damage, and I know it will be very durable based on how difficult it was to cut with the Dremel!
