• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is there any offroad riding on Vancouver Island? Thought something about Lady Smith?

You BC guys take the pickups with bikes in the back on the ferry? Or maybe cheaper or shorter lines to get on the ferry with just the bike?

Went up there a few years ago on vacation, no riding on that trip though, still remember the long lines to get on the ferry...

The lineups have been lessened since they've put some big ass ferries on the main routes but it ain't cheap. Pickup with 1 passenger ($13 per person there after) is about $60 each way. Riding the bike on gets priority boarding thanks to our local coalition of motoryclists and reduces the cost to $38. I almost always make a reservation in the summer to avoid waiting but that's another $15.
Van. Island is full of logging roads and best experienced with a dualsport bike. The popularity of quads has kept the roads from being overgrown. I've heard of good riding around Naniamo but I've only riden up near Courtney/Comox where I found lots of trails and reached some spectacular viewpoints.

Hey Coffee,
Sorry for the late reply.:) Don't know how I missed this one.
I just talked to a friend, Dave Fair who lives on the Island (Another Trails rider...pretty good one too)
He runs Gas Gas Pacific
And does lots of off road riding too.
Give him a call or e-mail and he'll set you up with any info you need.
250-380-7137 or gasgaspacific@telus.net

Hope that help's ya a bit.;)

Appreciate it Huskydude - but I'm not going to get a chance to get back there anytime soon. A bit busy at the moment trying to improve this site.

Like trying to high light links for instance. LOL

Maybe I'll call this coming week.
