• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Brand new 630 problems

Jono

Husqvarna
B Class
Hi new to this forum, just took delivery of my brand new 630 te a week ago, while riding to work with only 76 miles on the clock my husky siezed solid in the middle lane at 40mph, now waiting for new engine to arrive from Italy, dealership said something was not tightened up properly inside the engine. This was my first venture into the husky stable and i have to see this has taken the shine off. Dealership have at least lent me a bike.

Hope to be back on the road a a couple of days.

Sounds like a decent dealer , loaners are likely rare amongst husky shops. Lots of stuff not tightened properly on the outside of the bike, surprised to hear of an internal quality control issue :(

I´d be interested to hear what exactly went wrong. Was the bike still in the pre-p/u mode? Was it the fault of the dealer ... or Husqvarna?

Hope to collect bike with new engine installed tomorrow or Wednesday, dealer said it was a nut in the gearbox that was not done up properly at the factory. Sorry not sure what pre pu mode means. It was compleltely stock from the dealer. Dealer in Norwich is also a BMW dealership and they have lent me a GS, which is good of them but not the bike i wanted to be riding. As soon as i get to full detail of what failed i will post on here.

Could this have been the result of the first recall not having been carried out? I had a weird sound coming out of the clutch assembly when I first got the bike. Took it back to the dealer who did the factory required repair free. No probs since then.

Been to the dealer today and he told me there is a bolt on the main shaft in gearbox which has a tab washer on it, the tab wasnt bent over, production line fault allowing nut unwind itself. Just very lucky i was only doing 40 mph at the time. New engine has arrived when the dealer opened the crate it turned out to be a used engine and not a brand new one as promised****************************************!! dealer has rejected it, not having much luck with this bike. Vin number ends 0644. I have been riding italian bikes for years mainly vespa and lambretta and just for a bit of dirty fun i thought i would get a husky, this i have to say has left me feeling like i never want to see another husky agian but I have spent nearly £6000.00 and I cant see them giving me my money back. Lets hope the Italians get thier act together quickly before i really lose my cool****************************************!!

Mine hasn't been without problems either. I think I have it all sorted out, though. The fixes were simple, never kept me from riding the bike, and didn't cost me anything.

Now all I hope for is a bike I can get lots of miles out of. So far, 9000 and counting.

jtemple: what were the issues with your bike?

oil pump cover leak
clutch master cylinder leak (went through two master cylinders and a rebuild kit for that one, still not sure if it's going to remain leak free)
gauge cluster not water tight
clutch pushrod recall
rear sprocket bolts recall

+1 on the clutch master cylinder leak. Was told by dealer the replacement is on "back order".

When did these issues arise.. how many miles?

I hope the guage cluster is a fluke.. I would hate for that to happen after the warranty..

the other stuff I can live with or fix myself if need be..

I had a clutch pushrod recall done before delivery and sprocket nuts done..

Now I have to test the guage cluster out in the rain..

oil pump cover
leaking when I got the bike (I had it shipped to me) - fixed under warranty

Replaced the seals, did not work. Replaced the cover & seals again, did not work. Ended up replacing the clutch cover, oil pump cover, and all seals to stop the leak.

clutch master cylinder
leaked shortly after I got it, tried to replace the gasket under the cover, then discovered that it was leaking around the piston
got a new master cylinder under warranty, that one started leaking pretty quickly as well
got a rebuild kit for the second master cylinder (not under warranty, cost me $40)

So far, the rebuilt master cylinder is holding up, but I haven't been riding much. It's getting cold here. If it starts leaking again, I'm probably going to look into getting a Brembo replacement. I'm sick of messing with this Magura.

gauge cluster
probably a fluke, I haven't heard of anyone else with that problem

Mine got so wet inside that the display started shorting out. I actually noticed it right away, as the gauge looked like it had some condensation in it when I got the bike. It would get hot & sunny outside, and it would dry up. As soon as I'd ride in the rain, it would come back. Eventually, it just got swamped and stopped working.

I learned some things when replacing the gauge. 1) You only get one shot at setting it up for either the TE or SM wheel size. Once you set it, it cannot be changed. This fact is not stated in any documentation for the bike. There are also no instructions that explain how to set it. I ended up with a spare gauge set up for SM use due to this. 2) A new gauge = zeroed-out odometer & hour meters. I now have to track my mileage via a spreadsheet, as what my gauge reads is not the true mileage.

Still no news on my new egine despite being told I would get a call on Tuedsay, spoke to KTM today re availability of the 690 just in case i have look at getting a new bike I still hope it doesnt come to that.
