• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi folks, I picked up this bike last weekend and have put ~250 miles on it so it's still very new to me. I've got a couple of questions for you experts.

First, I noticed an oil leak after lunch when I got back to work. How worried should I be? I'll try to get a better look after work.

My second question is about the handlebars. Something was bent and now they have a strange angle. I'm think it is the silver part pointed at in the following photo. Where can I find parts like that?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Did you get a second set of wheels with this? I see your TE rolls on 17's. The oil leak seems to affect just about everyone and mostly on the same side. You'll need to pull the rocker cover and make a new gasket with RTV to make it stop. The factory seems to skimp on this. You might as well just leave it until you need a cam chain and/or valve check. That's all dependent on miles and what the PO has done.

As far as the bars go, it might be a little hard to explain, but you probably just need to tweak the bars a bit. Each riser bolt goes through a rubber bushing that helps dampen vibration but allows the bars to twist a bit in a get-off. Loosen the nuts that hold the risers to the triple clamp. I believe the heads of the riser bolts will be captured in the riser. If so, you won't need to pull the top clamp and bars off the risers. Next, loosen the top clamp. Then you should be able to line up everything straight ahead and tighten back up. You may need to hold the front wheel while you reposition the bars or knock the front wheel into a fixed object like the leg of a work bench or something. I've had to do this a few times myself.

Yep, I have the other wheels with the knobbies too. Thanks for the info on the oil leak. I'm glad it's not something too serious. The last service was about 1000 miles ago at 4000. Looking at the records, I can see it had an oil leak from the valve inspection cover repaired at that adjustment.

I'm going to try the handlebar fix. Your instructions are exactly what I needed, so thanks! I'll try it this weekend when I get some time.

This bike is really fun. The seat isn't as bad as what I had read about it.

Had the same leak on my 610, pretty common. You might check your battery box and see if it is cracking yet.

What part of Cali are you in?

Regards, Craig in Sacramento

I will check the battery box. Thanks for the heads up.
I'm in San Mateo.

Your bars a off because the top clamp is tweaked. I had mine off yesterday and during inspection I noticed a very slight bend. I tried to hammer it flat, but that didn't really work. I even tried heat, but to no avail. So I did this

and it made all the difference! My bars are perfect now. Just look at the clamp and figure which side is bent and cut that cross section off on that side.

I'm going to look into the clamps as soon as I get some time. Thanks to you folks, there should be two ways to go about fixing it. I might be asking for more wisdom from somebody once I dig into it.

Bloomfield, is that near wesleyan college? I lived in New England for over 10 yrs before moving to CA about 1yr ago.
