  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

boot repair?

I have a set of SIDI Crossfires.....great boots but after I just installed a new set of SRS soles I notice that the leather upper is seperating from the plastic sole base.

Do you guys think something like that can be fixed?

These boots cost $500 clams and I like to avoid needing new ones.

Thanks!

It's strange.....the black sole base is separating from the upper in front....like the glue failed?

they have 2 seasons on them but I just put new SRS soles on and I'd like to get another season on them or until the new soles wear out.

Being a boat builder I work with epoxies a lot. WEST SYSTEM makes a product called G-Flex and you can get it in small quanities. Designed to bond all materials together and it has a small amount of flex unlike most epoxies. I glued my Sidi's back together and that was a year ago. You will have to order it unless you are close to a west marine(not the same company. You will find it useful to fix many things around the house so it is worth the cost, which I am not sure of. I buy the regular epoxy by the drum and I have the G-Flex in quart cans(2- part). I think they sell it in small tubes also.

West system rocks, but the cobbler is also a great option. Some of the good old school guys will guarantee their work. If you can't find a good cobbler then water racer had a great idea.

I have the older Sidi's with the sewn on sole, my boot had also started a break going vertical and the cobbler said after buying a new sole and doing the work it would be $60-80 and he said it may not hold. That is when I got out the G-Flex epoxy. I have since gotten a new pair of Crossfires, but they are still in the box, trying to wear out the old pair, it has been a year on my repair and still going strong!

I got some G-flex! There is a west Marine 2 blocks away. $20 for 8oz

Gonna use it tonite

Any tips on boot prep?

Thanks!

Just clean it, make sure it is dry, glue it and clamp it if possible, squeeze clamps work well. It sticks to about everything.
