  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Bike is in for a Top end rebuild....let's report the experience ;)

Husqvarna
AA Class
Third owner of a 2007 TE 450 purchased in Jan 2013. My first bike since my youth (1982 YZ 80) and have had a blast transferring from an obsession of mountain bike riding/racing to Enduro over the last year. As I'm third owner and bike has over 12000 km on it...choices...rebuild or replace. I'm a sucker for just upgrading and making toys my own so the transformation begins. Parts have been ordered from a somewhat local expert in the field, Rob Lang of Lang's Offroad, and the work has commenced with my very local mechanic Ross from Ktec Cycle here in Kingston Ontario. It is now in the hands of Ktec with parts to be received any day now from Lang's. Thank-you snow for making this easier to manage as I no longer have the girl in the garage begging me to taker out. For the record...the 5 km drive (on asphalt) in negative 10 deg celcius with an open face reassured me that it's "OK" to be parted for a while.

Over the winter...I replaced the fork oil (was like sludge) and repacked the muffler (packing was an oily mess and almost nonexistant in material). Put on a BRP rear chain guide and took it out for a couple rips with some Kool Kutter ice screws around the subdivision on snow days, to the dismay of my suburbanite residents.

Figured the only way to keep sane while the bike goes through this surgery is to start a thread to report progress and any burps and shout-outs along the way. So far...it's been a bit of a challenge securing parts from a BC supplier, specifically valves and valve spring kit but have been informed that I should be receiving these (any day now) as well as the gaskets, piston, brake pads (rear), clutch lever, and aftermarket air screw for the carb to make those weather adjustments a taaaad easier.

So here goes....I forecast 4 weeks until I receive the bike back ready to roll. Given my first ride last year was early April and the weather we have had lately....it should be back in juuust about time :)

Hey ripnriding -- if you haven't already, you should have a look at the Ontario Dual Sport Club Forums. Lots of Husky owners there :) If your bike is put back together in time, you might even make the first big ride - "The Bethany Ride."

I'm putting faith in Rob Lang that the correct parts are ordered...have yet to receive them...en route and should be here by end of week ;)

Parts arrived yesterday afternoon and were quickly handed over to Ross at Ktec where the bike is already undergoing disassembly. Will do my best NOT to pester these guys and check up at the END of every week on progress....ideally...I'd love to just know when done and then go pick it up but I'm too OCD for that approach ;)

Double check the head gasket thickness (1.0mm, 1.1mm, 1.2 mm) if the replacement gasket is different than the OEM gasket, it will mean a slight adjustment in the look of the dimples when re-assembling. I changed head gasket a couple of months ago and my 1.1mm OEM was not available and I had to use 1.2mm

Had bike back for a week. Top end rebuilt, forks new bushings and seals, new clutch lever, replaced rear brake pads and took it out for a proper heat cycle....went a little longer than I should have. Starts up instantaneously and sounds great throughout the rpms which are WAAAAY smoother and HARDER hitting. Still being ginger and the terrain is limited to asphalt and ditches due to conditions. Looking forward to putting it through a couple more cycles.

Kudos to BOTH Rob Lang for sourcing parts and Ross from Ktec cycle for fielding my incessant calls regarding status ;) So...the experience went fairly well i'd say...I immediately changed the oil after bringing the bike back from the shop (4 km drive in single digit temps) and found the oil was FILTHY****************************************!!! So filthy that i was questioning a water pump seal leak. Luckily after changing it and looking through sight glass....oil color is what it should be. Also noticed that the radiator was filled up to the top...decided to leave it that way in the event that there may have been an air pocket in system and needed to circulate...nope after ride, still right to rim so withdrew to the 10 mm above coil spec.

The sound, or lack of sound, from the Moose racing muffler repack kit is pretty amazing...interested to see how quiet it will register when I attend some of the OFTR rides this season. So, other than the minor snag of a broken temperature sensor...now bypass to a direct toggle for fan...bike is back and where it should be. Hahaha also...rerouted the carb vent lines as I keep forgetting to tell shop to keep them high hehehehe.

I won't tell you how much the labour was OHR ;) It was pricey but I'll pay pricey any day to get the job done right!!!
