• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

G'day All,
I rang my insurance company yesterday to get a quote for my new TE449.
OMG I'm still in shock. We are Ag Contractors and spend a lot of $$ a year on insurance, clearly CGU dont insure many motorbikes.
What insurance companies are fellow members in Australia using?
Cheers Glenn

I tried to insure my Harley with Shannons, they told me to try insure my ride so I thought stuff ya In 26 years I never had insurance and I had no probs

I remember one time I ask RACV and they were something like 2-300 bucks that's because I had my car with them

Kel

It looks like 'Insure My Ride' is gunna get the nod.
Online quote comes in about $300 odd cheaper than CGU and that's with a $2000 riding gear policy thrown in.
Cheers
Glenn

Yow! With the amount of vehicles I own, I'm glad that I don't have to pay the cost of what you guys have to pay over there for insurance (not that I know what wages, cost of living and inflation are like there), or I'd go broke. Granted, I own all of my motorcycles and cars outright, so I really only have to pay for liability (under the laws). A small bike costs me 32 dollars a year, while a larger one costs about double that.

I think you are talking about liability if you hit/maim/damage someone?

Over here that is covered by your registration costs. If you are lucky enough to live in Victoria, it only costs about $80 for recreational reg with TAC coverage insurance included (if you break a leg while riding on a marked track, you will be covered, including sometimes loss of wages).
What we are talking about here is comprehensive or theft insurance, my 11 TE 310 costs me about $300/year to insure comprehensively.

That is not covered here by the DMV, and if you can't afford it your plate and registration will not be issued or it will be suspended. It is not mandatory to cover any vehicle for comprehensive, theft and collision unless you have financed the vehicle with a financial institution that requires it. Most FI s do require this, although when I bought my brand new TE 450 a few years ago from the dealership with the available financing, it was not required. Granted, full coverage would be good if you had a single vehicle accident, the vehicle were crushed by a fallen tree or were stolen. All my cars and trucks have full coverage, but none of my bikes do.
