  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Best small bore MX combo

Head

Husqvarna
AA Class
What is every bodies thoughts on the best combo for a MX bike. 144 or 165? Lectron, Mikuni or Keihin. Really interested to here every ones opinion. I currently have a 2013WR 125 with a 144 kit and a FMF fatty and standard carb with RM needle. Also have the CR ignition.
Thanks in advance
Neil.

Mx humm what type of rider are you begining or pro? I guess begining ignore everyone here and just get on the track see what you like for yourself yes 144 165 are very popular so are lectrons.
Personally i would master the 125 full throttle everywhere then upgrade too lectron if you cabt get to grips with the current carb then chuck a 144 kit on next season when you re piston and bore it.

I am neither beginner or pro. I would say a good intermediate rider. I have had all breeds and sizes of current 4 strokes and also raced before the 4 stroke era. There is no doubting that the new 4 strokes are very easy to ride fast. To be competitive on the 144 you have to do everything right. No room for errors. Basically I want to know is will a 165 make a better mx bike than a 144. Is a lectron better for mx or would I just be wasting my money. Maybe most people on this forum are into riding, other than mx. Just keen to here other peoples thoughts. So far I still have no idea.

For average riders id say yes the 165 helps to get momentum going out of corners
If you are a fast MX rider a 144 or even a 125 is probably better .
Lot of young guys and kids like the 125 or a 139 .
I am running a 39mm mikuni and Id say that's good for MX
As for a pipe - a pro circuit or Scalvini pipe .

Do you like the CR ignition ? That would also be better for MX .

To me the 165 wasnt the best mxer... it has more torque but doesnt rev as good as a 150/144/125.... I liked the 150 the best for mx because it had the best of both torque and top power (seat of the pants)... this was only with about 30 laps on a track that was mix sx and mx.... I think the Keihn was better than the Mikuni by far and the lectron was at least as good as the Keihn, but I didnt ride the lectron on a mx track..... I had the Mikuni working good but it seemed sensitive to altitude, temp, humidity where the Keihn didnt care so much....

The track i rode the 165 on was fairly flat so depends on the track also.... a hilly track the 165 will be better
