  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best Single Track Bike

I am looking at purchasing either the FX 450 or FE 501. I don’t ride on roads (mostly single track). Any thoughts on the FX vs the FE? Pending on the dealership, I am getting different opinions. It seems like the FE would be better since it has 6 gears. I have also heard the FX is too tall in first, and could over heat.

Neither. I’d get and fe350 or a te300. Just my opinion though. I don’t think a 450 or a 501 would get used any where near their full potential doing predominantly single track. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the 350. Personally I’m a 2 stroke guy so I’m biased that’s why I tried to give a better 4t alternative. I’d take a 2 stroke in the tight stuff all day any day. Of the two you listed the 501 would be better suited imo.

None of the dot compliant bikes unless you get a huge discount. FX350 with some mods makes a great woods bike. Or a 250/300 in either TX or TE models like posted above.

The FE 501 isn't a bad single track bike for its displacement and for street legal. Leave the engine tuning stock and regear 3 teeth up on the rear sprocket, and it's a pretty versatile bike with smooth usable power and still a top speed of 90 mph. If you want a real woods weapon, go to a smaller displacement bike, especially a two stroke model.
