• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best Shorai for 610?

The Shorai website suggests a LFX21A6-BS12 for my 2008 TE610 to replace the YTX14BS. Its 21 AH, 315 CCA, and weighs 3 lbs with a price of $230. But other places on the web suggest the LFX18A1-BS12, which has 18 AH, 270 CCA and weighs 2.12 lbs with a price of 190.

Anyone with opinions on this? The smaller battery appears to more than match the stocker, but I may be missing something?

I got the LFX21A6-BS12. Heavier and more expensive but is a drop-in replacement and seems to do the job.

I just ordered the LFX18 - I'll let you know how that works out.

FYI, there was some chatter about this a few months ago on ADV with folks looking at the 4 cell vs. 8 cell Li-ion batteries. A few of those recommended the LFX 14 as a suitable size for the TE610. I just decided to split the difference between the 14 and the 21. The 21 is designed for the bigger bikes (BMW 1200 GS, KTM 990, etc.) which have way more draw than our bikes. Hope this works out as these aren't cheap....

I've had great luck using the 18. Just under 5,000 miles now.

Ive got the 8 cell as well, absolutely no problems at all. No need to go overkill, these bikes aren't hard to start.
