  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best modification to do on a TE 450 2009?

A Class

hi guys!!

i have a 2009 te 450 and i want to do some modification on my bike but i don't know what modification would be the best. I like the bike but it still far away compare to my old KTM 525. I did the revalving on my front fork and i really like it, the rear shock still with the original setting, seems a little soft but it's work pretty good. The original gearing is just horible, got over 170km on the speedo. The original pipe seems to me really heavy and im not sure about the performance of the muffler. What i ask you guys is what are the best mod to do on that bike, what gearing is the best for do technical stuff and what kind of pipe can be the best for my TE? and everything i shuld know. Thanks!!

Best mod to achieve what?

In general, putting the bike in complete "Power UP" mode - having the TPS set to 100.2 at WOT, and having the right CO settings for you and your bike.

Stock exhast is fine for me

Stock gearing is 13/47, I ran that in mixxed terrain fine, and 12/47 for technical. I wore the stock stuff down and now I do the same with 14/50 and 13/50- and a 114 link chain.

Ok,

i reed a lot of your post guys and i seen some post about the TPS but i don't know anything about that. What i have to buy to check the TPS? It's my first injection bike so i don't know much about that. What are the basic stuff i have to get for my bike? Thanks

Alexis

you can get the I/beat system from semcodesigns.com its the same tuning/ diagnostics system your dealer uses for Husky/Mikuni. It is pretty easy to work with once it is set up in front of you- compared to reading about it- onceyou have read about it enough it seems self explanitory once you hook it up... but I'd suggest doing some reading in the efi section. If you have a good dealer- they can adjust your Ibeat settings (TPS and CO settings) but many suggest that Ibeat is a necessary tool to if you have an EFI Husky...

Basic mods I did when new: took off epa carbon canister/ plugged hole in throttle body with 8mm bolt, Power UP mod: cat, throttle plate, air filter, landa sensor/ power up resistor, replace coolant crossover tube with HP fuel hose, added Up-tite Y, used heat sheilding wrap to ptect the wiring loom and all wiring, inspect all bolts, coil connections, regreased swingarm and linkage, greased headstock, changed to Brigstone Ultra Heavy Duty tubes at first tire change, Took off stock tail and blinkers replaced with LED tail and less-breakable/ no turn signals, Secured the fuel pump with wire.
Extras added: Protaper twister throttle, Motosportz steering stablizer, OFG radiator guards, Cyrca Handguards, Up-tite skid plate, 7062 oil filter cover, Protaper- EVO Windham-RM-Mid bend handlebars, Modified exhaust insert for 95db, 3 gallon IMS tank.
Other adjustments assorted mods and replacement parts...

Holly, i still have a lot to do on my bike!!haha. I do have a scott steering damper, 7062 oil filter cover.all skid plate, rad guard, disc guard and all the stuff like that but for the rest everything is stock. I used the bike less than 10 hours last year do to an injury. Anyway i don't have any dealership here, i'm way to far up north for that!!! It still -20 everyday here, - 32 last Sunday, o ya!!! Anyways thats means i have to go work on my bike right away if i want to have a good bike for next racing season!!! Thanks bud

Yea it has started to "warm up" here in Wisconsin- but there is still knee high snow on my trails...

Glad I helped and good luck racing!

Hi Alex. For off-road riding, I recommend 13/50 gearing. You will need a longer chain to run this gearing.

The stock pipe is good, but I noticed a nice improvement on mine when I put a LeoVince X3 muffler on mine.

if doing tight stuff 13/50 or 13/51 i ran 13/51 on mine and it was the best thing that i did to my bike and it did to put a leo vince x3 on.....with the leo vince you will not get a big power increase but the power will be a lot smoother as to the stock exhaust were it tended to be a bit jurkey in the power delivery
remove the bar rasiers from under your bars you get a better feal in the front end and will turn in better when railing ruts when sitting004.JPG

some off road tires are the first thing that comes to mind as a worth while changed.i liked a 13/49 gear set up for pretty technical riding but our trails are faster than many other parts of the country.anny geaing change on the rear will require a new chain as mentioned.the leo is nice ...but is spendy.the fmf Q is nice for much less money.the BRP chain block and good handguards are the first things i add.dan

any larger rear sprocket will require a new longer drive chain other wise the tire will rub on the shock mudflap

Just bought the Leo x3 for my '09. Just wondering if you remapped you FI? I removed the Catalytic convertor, and it ran pretty poorly at first, but once it got hot (which I think gave it a chance to "seat everything"), seems to run great. Can't take it out on the road due to the snow, but seems to rev up quick, and stopped popping when idling back down. Rode it around the yard a bit and it seemed to make a big difference in power. I bought a new plug and was hoping to ride it a bit so I could check to see if it was running lean or not. Thought about getting the JD tuner to be able to make adjustments between the db killer and the stand alone spark arrestor. Just wondering what your opinion is.
