  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best DOT Tires for my '2010 TE 450 in NORCAL

Thor

Husqvarna
A Class
Hey TE fans,

I'm looking to replace the OE Metzler Karoo's that came with the bike.

I'll be riding mixed conditions in two places, 90% Dirt 10-5% Road.

1. Location one, typical hot dry hardpack conditions found at Metcalf and Hollister and Valley type terrain.
2. Location two, conditions found up and around Bear Valler CA rangeing hard pack, loose rocks, and some soft dirt.

I've heard a lot of people like the Dunlops, Pirellis and The Motoz are getting a lot of chatter. I am curious about the Michelins, not too much talk about those.

Let the debate begin!

Thanks,

Thor.

Bridgestone 403/404s do fairly well for me at Hollister. I don't go to Metcalf much, even though it's a mere 6 miles from my door. It's so small and the terrain is harder and rockier than Hollister.

I use the Pirelli XCMH front and rear on my TE450 and really like them. They feel just like the 403/404 but are DOT legal. I've used them in conditions similar to Hollister and was very happy with how they handled. They wear somewhat quickly in the desert (I probably won't get more than 5 or 6 races out of a rear tire) but provide excellent traction. Probably would last longer when used for trail riding. I'm going to keep using them regardless because they are the best DOT tire I've found for off-roading.

Look at the Michelin AC 10

So I think I'm down to the Pirelli Scorpion Pro F.I.M, XCMH or Michelin AC10.....Anybody ride these in NORCAL conditions and have some feedback?

Thanks,

Thor.

I've used the XCMH (rear only) and it was ok. Wasn't as durable as I expected but it did hook up when I needed it to. I think there are better
tires for hard terrain. I know that it is supposedly one of the most aggressive DOT tires but I usually just use regular knobbies and take care on the
slab.

AC10 is a horrible, miserable tire for dry and rocky conditions. Seems to work well in mud, snow, sand and other soft types of dirt.

This was my experience with the XCMH as well.

The MT21 has been excellent, I might get 1000 miles out of it, and the traction has been great, street handling good as well.

I ran AC10's on my XR400 and really liked them in ALL conditions of hard pack, wet slop or rocks and roots. I run a Trials on the back of my Husky and love it with whatever I find cheap on the front. I have a 908RR rally raid now and I no like it, seems to push out in the corners.
