  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

best dirtbike for 5'3 girl?

any suggestions? so she can reach the ground?

this is for trail riding...no racing of any kind...

professionally lowered and valved for her weight, 2010 or 11 husky TXC 250!

Like the one Motorsportz is selling in the classifieds but then get it lowered and valved by LTR... or Drew Smith :)

nice!!!

first i gotta see how much she will like getting dirty!!

(this is for my wife)

I wouldn't recommend getting a bike lowered. There are plenty of options for a 5'3" lady. My 5'3" lady friend races a Honda 150F and that would be a fine trail bike too. Or even a Honda 230. Any 125 would do fine, the TTR is probably best choice since the power is more tame.

hey thanks for helping me sell my bike but that would be too much bike for a beginner.

My Daughter had a TTR125 and even after a few rides she was needing more suspension / brakes. We got a KX100, great bike, surprisingly docile and EZ to ride and FUN. Unfortunatly she statted thinking about boys and high school and now is not interested in riding. So now i am selling a KX100 and DRZ125. Both great learner bikes. Might keep one for the 1-2 times a year she wants to putt around.

Best all round trail bike for a wee lass would be the Honda 230L imho. It is a low maintenance machine with a nice six speed box. It is lighter than the yammy equivalent with a more off road orientation. The motor is a tractor and can pull up anything, yey it is a gentle bike. We had one for my sons when they were in their early teens before moving on to the Yammy WR250f's. the CRF230L (platable) is a trouble free machine that I believe is really a 7/8ths. size overall.

here is another kicker... it has to be street legal!!!

in NJ the only places to ride require that dirt bike have plates!!

I bought my daughter a Kawasaki KLX 250s last year which has been a very good little bike. Still a pretty tall seat height but she wanted that one after sitting all the alternatives. USD forks, real brakes front/rear and feels like a big play bike in it's performance (everything is soft). She's 5"4". The biggest downside so far has been the lack of an aftermarket oversized tank.

You may want to ask WoodsChick :)

Serious question - when are you thinking about buying?

I have suzuki DS 80. I want to see if she can ride that first and like it and not kill herself...

this is a theoretical discussion at this point. my wife is a girly girl..

A DS 80 would be a good bike to try her out on. If she doesn't like the riding thing, it'll save you a lot of un-necessary bike looking and buying.

I'm always surprised nobody ever mentions the Kawi KLX140 when talking about small bikes. It's a bit better overall package than the other Jap sub 150cc trail bikes.
Most of the Jap manufacturers have been milking the 1970's technology they put in these bikes for far too long and asking too much for them. Drum brakes? Get serious already! Those were old tech already in the 80's. Even the cheap Chinese Baja 125 widely available here in Canada has hydraulic discs at both ends and is 1/3 the cost of the Jap bikes.

The problem with the TT125, klx140 and crf150 is they are all way too heavy. My wife can't lift any of them back up off the ground.

That's why 85's and 100's make great bikes for them. The kx100 is very smooth, super reliable...good suspension. Way better package. Only mods you need is to lean the jetting and put hand guards.

Not street legal by a mile though.
