  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Okay, so I've got the bike.......now what do I look for?

I've spent a couple of hours on here using the search facility and although I can find loads of references to "power-up" mods I can't actually find out what these consist of (on UK bikes, if they're different) or a step by step guide on what to do.

My bike was a demo given out to various magazines when the model launched but I have no accurate record of what has been done. It came with a race Arrow exhaust which was ridiculously loud and has now been replaced with the OE can. Noise is an issue here so don't want another loud pipe. Can the stock one be modded to release any more grunt or is it even necessary to change it?
As far as I can tell the air filter is standard and there is a plug with a wire attached to it where the 2 parts of the exhaust meet.

Fuel injected engines are a bit of a black art to me so any help would be appreciated. I only do trail riding, no enduros, so don't need or want a fire-breathing beast but something with some "snap" would be good.....

Oh....and I have a million questions I'm sure but need to get the basics sorted first so we know what's what.

Cheers....

Your bike is very similar to the 06'-o7's except it has EFI. Mine's an 06', one of my buddies has an 08'. Mine only has about 3000 miles on it, but they are mostly rocky single track miles. If the O2 sensor is still in the exhaust then the "power up" has not been done. It's pretty easy to do (I also have a 09' TE610). If you have the plug that goes into the harness install it. If you don't have it you should be able to order one (my 610 didn't come with one). Pull the O2 sensor and install a plug. That's it. You have activated the "race map". One problem with the EFI on those years is that it needs the battery to be in good shape to run. If it gets cranky and starts running funny the battery might need to be replaced. It might be worth it to check out BrandonR's thread in the 610 section on how to add a capacitor to allow the bike to run without a battery.

Thanks for the reply Mike.
There is a brass bolt in the mid section of the exhaust where the 2 parts connect and from what I've gleaned on here it seems that that is the part that replaces the O2 sensor. I don't have any spares with the bike and wasn't sure whether anything had to be done with any wires/connection blocks to give it the full beans - if it's just that sensor being replaced then it's been done. The air filter is running just the perimeter cage, so that's also been modded. Battery seems fine but may get an Optimate to keep it in good nick.
Cheers, Andy
