• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey everyone, after hearing wind of my mates planning a cape trip next year in july, i suggested taking the bike. They thought it would be a fantastic idea, and we have been chatting for a long time on how/wherer/when/why etc...

Just wondering for such a voyage - note will be bike trailering my TE510 to weipa then riding from weipa to the cape and back - what sort of preparations should i be looking for? If all goes to plan, i will be training in the gym and getting my fitness up, and also doing alot of riding to prepare for the trip.

Can anyone (from australia) provide some insight on such a trip??

Thank you all! If alll goes to plan, then cape trip will happen next year!

Cheers.

Did cape this year in the car it took us two days to do the telle track i have mates here at the Isa did it in three hours its flat and easy to ride, its the heat that is the problem if your from Syd or Melb I will talk to you more when I'm not working

Hi Neesmo Im from Melbourne, I have lived in the Isa for the last 4 years and I have found the riding around here easy. The Cape is much the same with what I found up there. We were up their in July the road was just graded and their was a lot of tourist, and the school holidays are on at that time so you will see a lot of family's. So i would look at accommodation, as for the rivers, I think 1 or 2 rivers you will have to carry your bike across, and did I mention the heat, cut a few laps on your Husky is a sauna  All I would do is just spend time on the bike that's all you need to do and drink plenty water when I first got to the Isa I would drink 5 to 7 litres of water a day and it would only exit once. and just one more thing. Is there a spot for me:D

Excellent mate will have to chat some more! I was looking at riding as soon as it hit the dirt, so from Lakeland to the tip is around 800kms each way. I think its doable, but we def wont be doing this in one sitting. 3 weeks off, travelling from Rockhampton. Rocky to Lakeland is 1300kms, so 2 to 3 days to get up there, then ride the rest. Was thinking about spares too - things like:
- new front/rear wheel on rims
- sprokets/chains
- hangers
- levers
- like 10000 air filters lol
- tools/nuts/bolts etc

I think it can be done, and as the tracks are fairly easy (it appears) then its a matter of time really then.

Getting excited even though its 6 months away!

Did it on a hire bike (DRZ 400) Didn't have to worry about servicing or salt water or the occasional drowning. Also meant we could fly into Weipa and ride from there, saved us a heap of time.
