  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

At last, the perfect gearing for my 250.

I've had my 2010 TE as my race bike for nearly 3 years, in that time I've changed the gearing a fair few times in the search for the perfect setup;
13 - 40 may be ok for street use but totally useless off road.
13 - 50 ok for trail riding or fast open stuff, too high for anything technical.
12 - 50 great gearing for dry enduro's, liked this set up, still slipping clutch in first too much in the really nadgery tight stuff.
12-51 did my first race with this gearing yesterday and loved it, seems just right, front end can loft easily to tackle the logs, minimal clutch slipping required in the tight stuff, not so crucial if you're in too high a gear as will still pull to the power, top speed is ample in the mud I was riding yesterday, barely got in to 6th.
For those of you that do race a 250 this set up is worth a try.

Sounds great and spot on the comments you have made about the combos, how does the swing arm get on when you put on the 12t, no chewing out the chain slipper. Been advised not to go up or down on the frount sproket of my11by dealer.

Yes it does wear the slider more than the 13t, I've just replaced mine for the first time, over 3 years, and the 12t has been on for over half that. Sliders are only £11 genuine so no bank breaker. Just that extra tooth on the back has made it perfect.

You can say that again! :D I run 12/48 and 13/48 on my 310 depending on trail conditions. Full FMF helps off the bottom. Adding a Rekluse this winter to up my game.

I have to figure gearing out for my TE310 as well I'm thinking 13/50 good dirt too slow on the street 13/40 good street not best for dirt 13/45 perfect!? Anyone tried this? Thanks.

More like 13/48. You would hate 13/45 in the woods IMO Cruising on the road at 50mph is around 7800rmpms

Freaky just trying to work out some gear ratio's 50/13=3.84 and 51/12=4.25 ..so wouldn't the 12/51 set up be waaaay slower than the 13/50 set up? Maybe my math thinking sucks I did fail that class!? lol Thanks

It depends how you define 'slower'. On the street 12-51 would be horrible, guess cruising speed of 45-50mph but I never ride the black stuff, I only race, with 12-51 the gears are short but you're pretty much always in the power. A 310 would take a 13t up front as it's got that bit more power than a 250. The smaller the cc the more critical the correct gearing is.
So yes, it is slower top speed but faster acceleration, perfect for UK enduro's which have a relatively short, 4-6 mile, lap.

Yeah I like the 13/45 combo,it does rev a bit more at highway speed but its ok to hit the trails haven't tryed Mx though as don't enjoy it as much.

I am running a 13/47 for all purpose (not so much highway), 13/50 single track/black diamonds at Hollister. Ha Ha !!! The 13/42 and 13/47 rips with Supermoto wheels. I do have 3 chains that work with my gearing. The 12port and TXC Leo ECU works for me. The 12 in the front is to small for long term IMO, going to wear stuff out, but if that's what it takes to put a X-light on the stool, works for me. These bikes were world champs for a few years............
Got to pay to play.....
