    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Anyone changed rings on an 010 TC250?

One of my bikes (~180 hrs) is using too much oil and I'm looking to change rings only and use the same OEM piston ...

Will I need a new head gasket and base gasket or anything else?

Look at the cylinder and see that it's in good shape. Honing it would be a good idea. You can get a hone to use with an electric drill. Honing will help the new rings to break in. Always make sure the cylinder is white glove clean before reassembly. Make a 50/50 mix of motor oil and STP oil treatment and coat the piston and new rings with the mix before putting the cylinder over the piston. Coat the cylinder also. Break the new rings in properly. Good luck.

Thanks and honing sounds like a good idea 4 sure ... I have no reason to believe anything is scared up in there ... I'm still riding the bike but it does get rid of oil somewhere and power may be down some also ...
 
WD-40 works wonders.. Its my grease and oil cleaner ...

So maybe its just a good cleaning and slap it back together? Maybe the piston can be left on the rod and add the new rings?

Always use new gaskets. Most gaskets are a one time deal. New head gasket, base gasket, cam chain tensioner gasket. You may get away with the valve cover but I would replace it if I was in there. Basically if you removed the matching parts replace the gasket. Nothing is worse than taking it apart twice because an old gasket is leaking.

I'm pretty sure these guys here can to to the measuring on the the cylinder and piston ... But what tolerances am I measuring for?
