  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anybody running the 2013 TE449 or TE511 in stock form

worstell

Husqvarna
So I am close to pulling the trigger on a 2013 TE449. One thing I am looking for is a bike I don't have to screw with. I do like to wrench/tinker, but don't have the time. So I am put off by all the threads related to having to powerup, remap, flash ECU, get tuner, desmog, get new muffler, etc., etc.. I'm totally willing to live with somewhat diminished performance so long as I can trail ride on technical trails without issue. For example, I can live with 35 hp vs. 50 hp, so long as the bike works for technical trail riding.

With that in mind, is there anyone running the 2013 TE449 in stock form and using it for technical trail riding? If so, have you experienced any issues? In particular, have you experienced regular flame outs (stalling)? From the threads I have read, most attribute flame outs to suspected lean conditions in stock form.

I fully expect a chorus of voices encouraging me to get the bike and do the normal mods. If I could do a few mods and "set it and forget it", then that might be fine. Just don't want an ongoing project seeking peak performance.

What Tinken said, bike's are strangled so they meet strict emissions standards, the negative effect of this makes power delivery atrocious at times. The mods you've mentioned are to make the bike more useable and rideable, the side benefit is more power....

The minimum "must do" mods IMO are (from a useability standpoint);
- decat the stock exhaust (it gets super hot right near your arse/legs) OR put on an aftermarket pipe
- get your dealer (or ZipTy) to upgrade the fuel mapping and put on the racemap 2 plug.

Then ride the wheels off the fooker, all the other mods are optional (and awesome :D)

Yes, at least the pipe, remap. They are race bikes with a license plate, so as with any brand bike of this type,
you will need to do a lot of maintenance. If you don't enjoy it, I would think you would be happier with something else.

I've got one in stock form......but in Aus the bike comes withs Akraprovic pipe and race map 2 loaded straight from the dealer. Had no issues so far, but I have only ridden it once. But have instantly fallen in love with it. Only other things I've done is Force radiator guards and Force clutch cover.

Dealer did mention that oil level is critical otherwise they spit the excess out.

Don't buy a street legal dirt bike.
Tinken is a host of knowledge and is giving some straight-up good advice here.

Worstell FYI - I rode mine in stock form for 800+ miles on some very technical terrain and at 12k+ altitudes and it performed flawlessly. If you can bear the ~30HP in stock form and the higher maintenance schedule then go for it. I love my bike now that I have made some very simple changes and learned to listen to the wisdom of the Jedi's of power here on Cafe Husky. I am so grateful they have tolerated my stupid disbelief.

Husqmarkus- It is encourage to know that you were able to leave it stock and it performed flawlessly in technical terrain. I may try the same. And if that fails, then it is good to know that there are some very knowledgeable people on here that can help me through the mods.

I think there is a dealer in Woodland Park, Colorado, who has a demo I can try on single track. I am going to try to do that tomorrow.

Big thanks for the advice everyone!

Great shop and have fun on the ride! Plenty of trails within 10 minutes. Not sure if you're familiar with rainbow mountain falls but it's one of the closest areas and pretty diverse trails.
