  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

any reason i shouldn't buy a 12 250 or 310?

i know that the red head is the new craze, but like everyone else i can't help but see the deals on 12 left overs. would i be really disappointed with a 12 250? i was told they are a little low on power, which is fine for now as i'm still a beginner, but can you do anything later on down the line like a big bore or anything like that?

I am happy with mine. You just have to understand that the bottom end power is a little lower. This can be compensated for by changing the sprocket. I run a 50 pn the rear and find it works well off road but revs a bit on the pavement. You have to ride it like a 250 as well this means keeping the rpm up and using lots of clutch in the slow stuff. You cant lug this bike through things like a bigger displacement bike. My 2 ¢.

I got a 2010 TE 250 a couple years ago -- only ridden one previous dirt bike (crf 230 and a chinese pos pit bike for a couple years)... I know the 2010 250 models didn't have a big bore kit (I searched exhaustively on this)..

That being said, I'd suggest investing in the 310 instead of 250.

The 250 has decent power but after awhile, you always want more. They both should be same basic weight, height, feel.. You want something to grow into - just learn to use that clutch and easing on the gas and you will be fine.

They are great handling bikes and easy to maneuever. I think the 310 would be the smarter investment! Good luck - enjoy the new ride. I doubt there would be a huge difference from 2012 and 2013, most of it just marketing ploy ;) All that new stuff sounds great on paper, but once you ride, it's a dirt bike...

Heck, I know friends that ride 2004 CRs and wouldn't trade them in for anything, or Yamis from early 2000's as well.

ya my local dealer has both a 250 and a 310. both at steals with the 250 being almost 1k cheaper. other thing could be to buy the 250 ride it and pass it on to the girl and buy something once i feel comfy on a bike.

...deals are great and so are the bikes...I 'm looking to get me one of the '12 250's as well...just rode one this past weekend..I love my '10 TC 250 but the extra oomph of the '12 is just right for me....I still ride my trusty '07 WR125 ,but this may put it on the back burner...

I just bought a 2012 TE310 left over about a month ago, coulden't be happier so far only put about 50miles as of right now.
Just the other day I switched out the tires for something more aggressive did the "power up" put hand guards on and did a 50T rear sprocket seems like it's going to do what I need to for sure esp for the price I scooped it up for.

I think my thread on the 2012 TXC310 and Robertaccio's on the TE310 should answer the question that started this thread with a resounding BUY ONE NOW !! We have both modified and raced our bikes and neither of us have suffered any Husky breakdowns. I don't know about Robertaccio but even when I'm not racing I ride mine pretty hard ... and now have almost 90 hours on the bike with 1 leaky fork seal and 1 minor valve ajdustment. My bike has been thrashed and crashed but well maintained. I ride desert single track with guys on KTM 200, 250, 300, KTM 250f. RM250. WR250f, Husa 390, CRF450r, CRF450x, and a bunch of YZ250 ... they have all seen me and my TXC in action and are impressed, they have all tried the Husky and are impressed. They typically tell me that it feels a lot like a 250f but with way more power from bottom to top. I have found that the fast guys all seem to ride the same speed no matter what they're on - the slow guys too - but that I am faster for a longer period of time on the Husky. The Husky handles so well and puts down power so well that "faster" bikes don't accelerate any faster than me.

besides being street legal what is the difference te and the txc? can i put lights on a txc? i know the 310 is good, feels more like a 250f, i was more wonding abotu the 250, its $900 cheaper than the 310.

I'd say it's worth the extra 900 to get the 310 ... resale on dirt bikes is always difficult. Not that I don't think 250 is an awesome bike, but I'm regretting not getting the 310 instead of 250. These bikes make you into a better / more confident rider - so having something to grow into is important. Especially since your previous bike was a 250... I believe TXC doesn't have battery , lights, etc. So TE is the way to go unless you a racer..

Here is a reason to go with the TE. If you live anywhere near a National forest, most of the roads that lead to neat trails have signs that say ”Street legal vehicles only”.

i'm going to plate it either way, i can plate a txc as long as i can put headlight and tail light on it. the local dealer only has txc's. there are no other dealers close to me either. i don't live near a national forest either. those are 2 hours plus north of me and i won't ride them.

Well heck then go that way. You obviously don't live in Cornholafornia or some lame state like it. It will be faster out of the box than a TE too!

It depends on how lenient it is in your area to plate a dirt bike. Some places require certain exhaust restrictions like a protection plate (?) and noise baffle/SA. Also - you need turn signals for a plated bike, and mirrors, DOT Tires... Again, it's all determined by the area - but most are beginning to get more strict. I'm sure there are a couple other minor things that all add up in price...

I think the TXC will come with the 12 point Injector ? If it does this is the way to go !

If you go TE you will need to buy the 12 point Injector and ECU .

TXC will have Elec Start (Battery !), 18" Rear Wheel, Stand etc... But no lights .

Personally I would go 310 .

Go for the TXC310. Spend the extra cash. Someone mentioned resale value, and the 250 really doesnt have one compared to the 310.....around here anyway. My dealer was giving the 250's away last year......thats why I bought one. If your going to hand the bike down later on then resale might not be as much as an issue. IMO it doesnt matter how skilled or fast you are. I can ride close to the same 'fast trail pace' on any of my bikes so I wouldnt buy the 310 base solely on thinking you might be faster. The 310 will have more low end which could help you but I see your already used to 250f power. That being said.....if you did go 250, you wouldnt be disappointed. Just ride it like a 250f and you will be fine. Be prepared to POSSIBLY sink a little money in either 250 or 310 to get them running correctly (mostly '12 models). A good dealer will get the bike running pretty decent off the floor but a bad one could leave you wondering why you spent 5k+ on a turd. I raced a YZ250F a couple years ago. On the scales the TXC is heavier but it handles the tight stuff better the the YZ. Plus it has electric start which believe me.......is awesome on a hot summer day and your recovering from a hard fall during a race or trail ride. On the subject between '12 or '13? With the amount of money you might save I would go '12......but I am thrifty (aka cheap!). I plated and put lights on my '12 TXC250. I swap SM and dirt wheels. It always makes me giggle like a little school girl when I power through the tight twisty back roads:D

Search the forums this topic has been discussed over and over and over. The only reason why not to get a husky is resale value is terrible if you pay anything close to retail and in my experience the electrical starting system isn't reliable. Other than that is a great bike.

The TXC310 is the bomb, lol. You're gonna love it. The TXC also has TC suspension, so it'll deal with the rough stuff much better. You can still put lights on it from the TE if ya need em.

thanks guys, i never seem to have luck with forum searches. for the price of the 250 i would prob just keep it forever to be honest.
