• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

any dual sport/plated vintage huskies?

i am tossing around the idea of trying to get my 87 430XC plated. im in the process of getting a headlight, but figured while im at it, go all out and go complete dual sport.

i have an extra set of wheels, so i can have a set of street and dirt tires, which would be nice. in california dual sports are more and more becoming the norm out here.

wondering if anyone else has vintage huskies that are plated. how are the street characteristics? to goto work i have to make a 7 mile trip on the freeway. im not looking for to do warp speed, but wondering how the bike feels at 65-70mph.

if you got a dual sport vintage bike can you post a pic. give a little info on the bike such as gearing, tires, mods, how it runs on the street, and type of street riding such as in town only, supermoto, freeway. im sure im not the only one that has dreamed of a street legal older husky.

The biggest thing is about the engines as they tend to not carry constant rpms as well do to jetting. It was noted that some tend to run lean in midrange

Well, it would be a super light dual sport for sure, a 430 would be better then a 250. But usually there a big compromise
when it comes to street & off road gearing. Both my 91 350 WXE & 2000 KTM 400 , sort of sucked on the highway, because
i left the stock woods gearing on them, at 55 they would vibrate alot more then i cared for, & they had dual sport tires on them as well. I've been kicking around make a 510 4 stroke one but who knows?

I would definately do a fourstroke over 2 now but that is my own preference as well as minimizing licensing issues.

I dream of it as well but the reality for me is too much distance from riding areas

I have an 86 400WR on the road and it sucks (road wise). but it's sweet to be able to leave your house all geared up and ride to your favorite riding spot with no hassels from the POLICE. I wired in a banjo bolt brake light switch to the front brake ,an acerbis fold away mirror and added a bicycle horn to pass inspection. hand signals for directionals.

thanks for the input. i do have an extra set of wheels, so i can have a gearing setup for the road and trail if i really wanted. front sprocket is easy enough to swap, and have a set of knobbies and streetish or supermoto type tires.

for Picklito and WRX, are you guys running a bettery? WRX is running the ol hand and arms for signals, but how about Picklito? are you running signals? i will be registering it in utah so i need signals. i think like would be a lot easier if i can get away without a battery, but now sure how demanding that would be on the whole electrical system.

If you have the 140 watt SEM ignition it would not be hard to wire in a small 12V baterry to be charged byone lead of the SEM. Or to try batteryless see one of the other threads about using LEDs for taillight, brakelight , and turnsignals. Much less draw and headlight can be run direct off the 2nd 70 watt yellow lead from the SEM.

I have the SEM and run it to a regulator/rectifier then directly to a small sealed lead acid battery in the air box. Since there's no E-start you don't need much. Basically it acts as a capacitor to damp any flicker and to pass the Kalifornia requirement that you have a parking light. From there my whole system is DC. Works great.

By the way, does the SEM use the same flywheelpuller as the Motoplat?? Since I found I have (2) lower ends with SEM in them

One thing bad about the dual sport Husqvarna idea is the weight is too low for higher speed road stabilty, the same factor that makes them so sweet off road. Remember dual purpose machines have always been a compromise and usually can not excel at both desired purposes with making changes to accomodate one or the other

it sucks because of gearing ,knobbies on pavement, ill handeling traits of long travel suspension on pavemnet. i registered it so i can leave from my house to go riding without using my pickup. i dont us it as a commuter or backup transportation. its just a dirtbike with a plate on it. no battery ,everthing runs off the motoplat.
