• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Another Silly Electrical Question - Horn - 2005 TE450

I have been battling the wiring on my 2005 TE450 since I bought it used 4 years ago. I think it was wired in the garage to be street legal before I bought it.

My horn has never worked and a tab broke off of the back of the horn. I put on a new horn.

I connected what looked like the correct wires but it didn't work.

So, I ran a wires directly from the battery and somehow from the switch.

When the bike is not running, the battery sounds loud and great.

When the bike is running, it basically buzzes and is not loud.

I assume I am I missing something obvious. Is there an easy way to use the switch wire and battery to wire the horn?

Thanks,
Mike in Ocean County NJ

The first thing you are going to need is a voltage tester to check for voltage where you are attaching the horn, and the wiring diagram/ schematic for your bike. You say that when you attach the horn directly to the battery that it works. I can only assume then that you have purchased a DC HORN and not an AC HORN, they sell both. From what you describe it almost sounds as if you have picked up Part of the AC circuit from the switch, which would account for the horn not working correctly when the bike is running. I've seen them wired both ways with a lot of enduro bikes and strictly off road bikes having the headlight and tail light wired for ac voltage using a voltage regultor. You may have simply chosen the wrong wires when you hooked it up. The wiring diagram /schematic would verify the correct wires and would give you a starting point to find your problem.
