  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC And Now For The Rear Shock.....

So....a while back I had the front forks on my FE501 revalved and it made a night and day difference. But I didn't quite have the money to have the rear shock revalved at the same time. Now I got a some money for my recent birthday, and with the forests all closed, and a pulled muscle in my back, it seemed like a good time to send my rear shock off to be gussied up and made nice and plush by the good folks at Precision Concepts. There will be a report here when I get it back and have a test ride on it. We already know it will be good though.

Shock is back in now. Lost the heat binky on the header, so I had to order one from the local dealer. Just for the record, removing and reinstalling the shock is a pain in the butt.

To get the shock out, first I removed the muffler, then had to unbolt the shock and lower links, then drop the shock and rotate the reservoir to the back, I also removed the rear brake reservoir to get the brake line out of the way, unbolted the subframe, and removed the header pipe. Once all that is done, the shock can be wriggled out, while twisting the loose subframe slightly to allow the shock to slip by. Everything in exactly the reverse order, shock dropped in, header back on, brake res back on, shock and links bolted back up...maybe muffler slipped into position next, then subframe bolted back up.
Next up will be a ride, as soon as the weather cools down in the high desert, or the national forests opens up...which ever comes first.

The shock is indeed a bit of work to get in and out. Little bit of a pain. I’m happy with the one on my 20 tx for the time being but it will eventually get revalved. It works for now though. Look forward to hearing how it performs.
