  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any tips for getting the air filter back in without having to take side covers and all off? Maybe I am just challenged, but it took an hour (the longest time for me in years and maybe my eyes are not as good) to line the bolt up and get it to catch. It has always been a frustration.

I only remove the seat. Next, raise the battery by the its tray and tilt it up and out of the way. You might have to watch your battery cables, etc. here but no need to unhook anything on the battery. Then I use a strap hooked to the gas tank/seat post and battery to hold the battery up while I finish installing the filter. Take your clean filter in plastic cage, and even the bolt (but you can put bolt in later) and TILT it at an angle to slide it thru the top of the subframe and opening where the battery was. Then tilt it back into position being careful to line up the notch in the cage with its holder on the bike. Double check that its fitted on all sides, tighten the bolt, drop the battery and tray back down, don't let it catch on your side panels, it needs to rest on the subframe or your seat won't fit right either. Dzus down the seat and your done.

Moose racing foam style. It just seems to always be difficult. lift battery all the way up, get it in there then line up the prongs and then the screw just seems to not want to catch. I have done it many times and not once has it just popped in and fasten up.

I have the same bike and the same issue, to be fair it's the only thing with the whole bike that annoys me so i can live with it but yeah, it can be a bitch to get the bolt started!
my tip? perseverance, but i'll be checking back to see if anyone has a real suggestion.....

I have turned the end of bolts in the lathe (drill and a file will work) to a slight point. Screw a dye or even a nut on first to smooth the threads after "sharpening" the end of the bolt.

I had a hell of a time the first time and now make it routine to remove the side covers, more for just a visual to ensure I have a good seal...speaking of which...I use notoil system and wack the grease to the outer foam. Same tips as colemanapp...I find it's now a breeze with practice ;) When I say "breeze"...I hold the filter so the tips of the filter basket are putting pressure against holes and that gives me confidence that it hasn't moved....what filters do people use...I need to replace the one I have...

Take battery out and let it hang by the cables. Put the filter in on a 90 degree axis to its insitu position. It is very straight forward. Always wear rubber gloves.
