  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

AHRMA North Atlantic Cross Country Series

Richard Colahan

Husqvarna
AA Class
The 2014 AHRMA NA Region CC series just wrapped up this past Saturday.
This was my first year at Vintage CC racing, and I have to say this is a great series. A very low-key group...everyone glad to see new-comers to the series. Excellent courses with some great trail. Events are 1 hour plus 1 lap...you get plenty of racing...especially the Ironmen that race both the Vintage and Post Vintage races.

These events are held in NE, Central and W PA, and 2 in S PA and N Md.
The WVA AHRMA National is also included in the schedule.

But we need more Huskys out there!
Winter is the time to get your bike prepped and ready for next year.
Please consider giving this series a try next year.

I went to the Johnnie B classic last weekend and had a blast! It was my very first vintage race and the first time I had ridden a bike in 10 years..... I can say that riding my newly purchased '82 250xc was an AWSOME experience. Listening to the trans gears whine, the Husqvarna exhaust note and lugging the engine down low to crawl over the slimy roots and rocks was what this old man needed! I met a guy with a really nice 83 430WR that had a polished tank with the white tank protectors, it was really cool! I will be back next year as the folks were very friendly and welcoming.
Thanks the crew for hosting a great event.

A few more thoughts on this topic...
I'm a 63 year old former Enduro rider...first Enduro was the 68 Delaware State Championship!
I've continued to ride over the years...including riding a modern bike in current Enduros from time to time...but began to feel like I was getting in the way of the fast guys!
I considered vintage racing, but vintage Motocross did not have the appeal...I like riding in the woods!
This CC series fit the bill perfectly. At about an hour + 10 to 15 minutes per race, you get your money's worth!
And it's certainly not just old farts like me...there are many younger folks getting interested in vintage CC.
And most of the bikes that are raced are not high $ re-made specials...many are just well serviced bikes that still show alot of their...patina!
As I mentioned, it's a great group that sincerely makes you feel welcome.

If this sounds good to you...get that vintage Husky out of the barn...or get on Ebay or Craigslist...and get it prepped this winter for next year.

i think i may have to try it out. i have some of the well serviced patina you speak of! sounds like everyone is welcoming and there isnt much attitude or intimidation, which should add to the fun

Who makes the fork seal protectors?
I took off the old fork boots off mine, did not like the looks of them (1983 WR).
Have a 1979 IT175F and a 2000 KTM 640 adventure R next to my 1983 250WR and 1979 250WR, you have cool bikes also

I had bike envy sitting next to you at the start! LOL! I'm looking forward to next year and plan on making several races but not sure I'll make the entire series, I can tell you that I'm hooked.... a few after pics.

Great having you out there and glad you had a good time. It really is a great regional race series!

Nice looking bike, I really like the 83 wr's too. Oh and I too love the way that those transmissions wine down low. good luck on your racing.
Bary.

you guys should look at getting a Vinduro series up. racings fun but a whole lot of people would rather an organised ride "like a race" but just a token prize for doing a lap or two. great drawcard for the 98% who haven't raced. great social occasion's

I'm working on my son to race the post vintage mx with my 430cr sounds like we have other races too.

Here in Thomason,ct we have the army Corp of engineers were most ride it's 59 acres of trails. Too bad they didn't hold a vintage or post vintage ride there. The pathfinders maintain the place and hold the netra races here for one weekend.

Hi Guys,

I am also from Oz and I recently (a year ago) went in my first Vinduro that Suprize also went to, and have had a ball, I agree with Suprize, ours are more social can be up to 4-5 hrs riding but not a competition. Ours is run with the objective that medical insurance is provided as part of your motorcycle registration, which if racing is not covered ordinarily. Our organisers have done a terrific job and deserve plenty of praise. Historic Classic reg is as low as $50/yr plus club and event fees which are also all sub $100.
On our rides you are encouraged to form a trophy team of two or three riders and stick together like a buddy system for accidents and the like on the trail. Works well for old farts and old bikes.

cheers

The club held a vintage race at the Dam this year with the junior enduro. Very rough for a vintage bike on the mountain side. Fun down low. NETRA is going to sanction a championship vintage series for 2015. Hope to see both of you there. This is a great group of riders. I am working on two Husky's now so keep in touch.

Going to try the baltamore trail riders blind enduro Nov 30th looks to be a ride at your own pace trail ride.Google it southeastern Pa

I'm five minutes from the dam. Will the vintage race include the post vintage bikes with NETRA too?
Will this vintage racing spread to union at Martin's farm?
If it includes into the other NETRA race areas too this could be awesome.

My son hammers thomaston dam for years on his 83 430wr I traded to him. Before that he ran 71 suzuki ts125 & 72 Suzuki ts185. I took him years before he drove now like 20+ years later he still knows every rock in the place.

His ex girlfriend rode with us too at the dam. She hammered every trail on her kx100.
My point is her dad raised her to beat the boys. My son help her hone her riding skills. To the next level. She sent many riders at the dam home after she smoked them then took her helmet off and they found out a girl beat them.
I enjoyed watching her beat most guys. I found her a Yamaha 600yzf and her killer instinct transfered to the street. This really pretty gal liked smoking the guys on there Harleys. She hurt a lot of ego's for sure. She was fun to watch in action.

My buddy knew a AA & a B rider in NETRA. I got them to ride with my son and his girlfriend. They thought they were going to baby sit. I wanted them to see if these two young kids were NETRA material. By the end of the ride they didn't need a baby sitter.
Sara cut off one of them going into a narrow trail. I told them she was good.

Last time I went to thomaston dam there was a police officer there, not a federal corps of enginer kind of guy local police. We had to share the bikes with plates as the guy with no plate was threatened with a trip to jail. A off road plate is acceptable. Never had that happen before.

How many work parties are you willing to go to at Martins? Or with any club that promote these things.

Martins is only one track out of the many that the NETRA clubs support. We all work with our local clubs on their events. I love Martin but the place is beatup for Vintage bikes. Not sure if new trail can be cut there or not. Also to ride in Ma/Ct. require off road reg. Pachaug is street plate only.
