  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Aftermarket WR300 Rear Brake Pedal?

Husqvarna
AA Class
The WR300 is my first Husqvarna since I had a WR125 in high school. Been doing a lot of reading here after I bought a 2014 last month. Lots of great advice here. After reading about rear brake pedal issues, I was wondering if anyone makes an improved/beefier rear pedal for the WR300?

I've seen a few for the white KTM's, and Italian four stroke Huskies, but nothing so far for the WR250/300.

Thanks

Heath

It took me one ride to get used to the brake pedal. Totally natural now.
I have done 70 hours with half of that racing in some pretty technical forest (stumps, clear fell etc) and have never damaged the brake pedal. It's tucked in so nice and tight I haven't even bothered with a brake snake.
Oh yeah size 11 boot.

Try it, you might find it fine.

I've got the rear brake tip from Zip Ty Racing and shifter tip end and both made a big difference in feel for me. And just a side note I had Ty Davis do my suspension as well and it is amazing.

I agree with O.P. I've learned to live with it and I use the front brake most of the time anyway but if there was a better replacement out there I would buy it in a heartbeat.

i took my pedal out and straightened the whole pedal out in the press.
took me 5 min and it fits perfect now. But if you want you can fit a TE 450 510 one from the 2008 2010 model.

I bought a nice replacement tip, anodized red with replaceable teeth, then I got used to the stocker too. I use a lot of rear brake and like the lever bend and length. Still gonna replace that tip though.

I thought about straightening mine, but it's cast & I was afraid it would break or worse, fail when I needed it badly. I got used to the stock one & haven't given it much thought. The one ordered looks nice & I wouldn't mind adding a little bling if it works well.

Will see.

It'll be brake snaked to the bike and it's got the folding tip too. I'd rather have it a bit further out than too far in where my foot isn't dabbing the air rather than the rear brake. I've got a trip planned to Burning Rock WV in May. It should be a nice ride (looks nice anyway, never been there) and should be a good test of the new pedal.... if it fits.

Looks like it will fit just fine. The bushing for the master cylinder pin looks to be too small and will likely need to be drilled up a few sized to fit the WR. But, that's an easy mod. Hope to have some time this weekend to mod and mount it and take some photos.

So, here is the new lever.

Here it is next to the stock WR300 lever.

You can see the bushing for the master pin is too small and few mm's too wide.

A 5/16 drill bit was used to get the bushing to the correct diameter. I used the trusty bench grinder to decrease the thickness of the bushing too. It was a couple of mm too thick for the master coupler.

Here is the modified bushing.

Here it is mounted on the bike and ready to ride.

Quick trip around the neighborhood makes me happy with the swap. Much easier to reach and use. I haven't had time for a real ride, and I need to figure out where I want the brake snake to anchor, but I'm happy with it.

Just a quick update after riding with this pedal on the bike for a while.

It was worth the $60. Never missed the pedal (biggest advantage:banana: ) and it never snagged on all the rocks, logs, and other crap I have ridden through.... so the fact it is located a bit further out from the cases isn't a problem. The traction on the tip is excellent even when covered in mud.

Just my impression.
