  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Aftermarket Parts for TE models

Greetings folks,

Was wondering if there were after market parts for 2010 TE 250 (X-Lite engines).

More specifically, I was told my Cams / Valves / Head Gasket may need to be replaced soon.

I believe the Valves are Titanium? Would going to Stainless Steel Valves be better as far as wear and tear (last longer?). Since this is a 250, the bike has a tendency to stay in the higher rev range - as much as I try to keep it low :excuseme::doh:. Also, any opinion on rear sprockets being stainless steel?

Probably won't be until next season , but was going to see any recommendations or suggestions as well as expected price. Would Halls Cycles be the best place to find these parts? Elsewhere?

Thanks in advance

I haven't found any aftermarket valves for the X Lite. Halls told me somewhere around 1100 I think for all the valves and other doo dads needed to do a valve job with labor.

We have this steel sprocket on our TXC 450. Relatively light for a steel.

Had a Dirt Tricks Ironman on my KTM and it literally lasted 3 years of nearly every weekend riding. Extremely light.

Appreciate the input, I should put -XLITE- engines in title.

I saw stainless steel valves for prior models but not for the XLITE engines. I hope they make these, especially for the smaller bore engines as they have a tendency to be revved higher more often. And to the best of my knowledge, this affects the valves a little more?

Does the oil get cycled often to the valves in these X-LITE engines? I have heard someone on older TE450 model reroute the oil line so it dumps the oil on top of engine to prevent valves from seating into the head and decreasing wear on pistons/cylinders if you ride it hard. This was not an X-LITE engine.

When I had my Valves checked, the mechanic said they seemed surprisingly worn for the amount of usage I had on it (around a year of weekend ridiing).

But this was also after another place put on the oil filter wrong so was probably starving parts of my engine of oil anyhow.

Would be nice to see some aftermarket parts for the smaller bore X-Lite engines to improve durability.

valves "suprisingly worn" what did the mechanic do? how did they come to that conclusion? did they make an adjustment to the valve lash? were they .002" off or .004" off? if it was corrected I'd just watch them and moniter...

You need to find out more specific info about the state of your bike before spending serious cash on what could be speculation.

Uptite or DJH may be a good source for rebuild- but it depends on if you send them your head and you instal the rebuilt head on how much of an end cost you will have. But If I were due for a rebuild, I'd be looking at Halls, Uptite, or DJH. First figure out what you have, then start making some calls.

Well I do agree with you. More detailed information would be nice. The mechanic working on the engine was a master mechanic, and has rebuilt multiple engines of multiple sizes (Motorcycles and snowmobiles). He was certified Honda but works on all types as well.

I had part of my engine rebuilt - thats when they looked at Valves. The Crankshaft seized up. The oil filter was put on wrong by a different place, which I believe caused the shrapnel to not get filtered out, which clogged the oil pump, and then starving the engine oil. I'm also a recreational rider and wasn't changing oil for every 800 miles, yes dumb but I've learned and do it between 300-500).

When the crankshaft seized up, it probably rattled quite a few other parts considering the revs at which it probably happened. BOOM!

I guess a better question would be if the Valves had been gradually getting worn down, or when the engine blew up, caused the valves to become 'surprisingly worn' from the mayhem of the seized crankshaft and the violent shaking causing the Valves to be damaged.

The bike runs great since the partial rebuild (didn't replace valves but I'm guessing re-adjusted them when they tore engine apart and rebuilt). Fires up first try with ease and idles/runs strong.

But ever since he told me that, I been pretty worried about the Valves.

I just joined and was looking for information on how to "uncork" my 2011 Te 449. I just bought the bike and would appreciate any help.
Thanks JJ

I have them on my 310 and agree with Tommey helps the arms hang in there on those tough sections. I did use a 5mm longer bolt on the bottom mount just so the thread goes all the way throught the frame other than that fitted up easy.
