  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

About to pull the trigger, but...

I have some concerns.

I found a good deal on a left over 2010 TE 510. After spending tons of time researching these bikes I have come across stories of great pleasure and those filled with grief. Some of the issues that I am hearing about are fuel pump issues, FI issues, Fuse issues, Running Hot, etc. I have been around a motorcycle or two, so I know that part of the fun is the frustration, but how much of this talk is an isolated case and how much is legit?

What do I need to look for in the TE 510? My "local" dealer would be about 2:10 away from my house, so avoiding his location is in my best interest (good dealer, but its a long ride/drive). Being a computer driven bike concerns me somewhat. I don't want to be making a trip everytime something little pops up.

Help me relax!

the aftermarket water impellar kit is a must. at least its working great on my txc450 and seems to be the ticket for the bigger bikes overheating problems from what ive read on here.

JD powersurge X6 EFI programmer and the high flow impeller and enjoy a great bike. A few things to address (battery hold down, sprocket bolts, sub frame bolts) and you are good to go. Great bike.

Well, like I have said before: 08TE450-2 Fork Seals, 1 Batterie, Eats tires like candy, LOL, over 5,500 miles (no Other issues) Need I say more?
08-SM610-stripped oil filter basket bolts (my fault?) Kills Deer that run in front of you saves rider. Over 3,500 miles (no other issues).
06-TE250- purchased used, needs a right fork seal as of yesturday, I am spoiled with FI, Carb needs fiddling when high altitude, has over 2,500 miles (no other issues). If you can get the bike for a good price I would jump on it.

It's only money, do it!! My 09' te250 is rock solid even after a complete submerge. Hard to wreck a Husky.

Thanks guys! I tend to over research when it comes to stuff like this. So, from what I am hearing from the masses is that these bikes are well built, easy to work on, and wicked fun. With BMW in the mix now I expect to see more support, but who knows.

Parts availibility? Good or bad?

You know what they say...when people have issues they are more vocal. Also, I love seeing boards like this with people who are passionate about their "stuff". It is kind of like some of the MTB forums (Turner).

How is the resale on these bikes? Not that I want to sell it before I get it, but just wondering.

OEM parts- great, and, cheap.

resale: KBB is low for some reason. but mostly these bikes are cheap to obtain and maintain.

get it, dial it, play different and smoke yer pals.

p/s- my dealer is 2 hours away- 4 in rain and traffic. a good dealer makes a big diff- regardless of brand. test ride it for at least 10 mins...then check it over.

All of the parts suppliers on this site are great, you'll get the parts fast. I was looking into parts for a different bike and every dealer I went to pulled out a catalog and had to order them. One phone call with the Husky and the parts are on my door the next day, and they are the right parts. You wont regret.

yeh ill agree to that. im blown away at the ignorance of some that say "ya cant get parts" for husyk's. ever try to get parts for a KTM? how bout a honda? over the past few years its been amazing as to the service ive gotten from ANY husky dealer for parts or service. never seen anyone more willing to help a customer, even if they didnt sell the bike. from plastics to pistons....the stuff just gets to my door 10 times faster than any other make. and, w/o the attitude.

Amen to that brother!! I got kawi parts for my sons bike from Halls faster than i got kawi parts from the kawi dealer....

one case in point, and there's many....i snapped a fork guard in a baaaad crash early this year. i work for a large auto maker. we make bikes too. i can use one of our parts as it's a direct cross over (for 3 times the price and a 5 day wait). but i called Paul @ TCP. i had new guards in hand 48 hours later and he acted like i was doing him a favor! and it was DIRT cheap for OEM.

our dealer network is the best kept secret in the industry. i deal with dealers all day, every day...dedicated single and multi-line husqvarna dealers are hands down the nicest and most passionate of the bunch. i'll drive two hours for a freindly face and good service. beats a 15 mint drive to stand in line, put something on order and deal with tude from some sideways-hat, pants on the ground numbskull with tribal tatoos that dont know a plug from a tube.

it's weird, our dealer network dont have state lines and boundary's. they all wanna help. dont matter where you live. your parts are as close as the phone. if dealer A dont have it, he'll kick it dealer B and so on...

fully awesome.

Okay, a new twist. I just got off the phone with a KTM/Husky dealer and I also got a killer price on a new 530 EXC. Now I don't know what to do. A buddy of mine had a 525 and absolutely loved it and another person that I spoke with had a 510 and a 450 EXC and likes the KTM better. Flame bait, I know, but help me!

Even with the "good" deal on the KTM, it is still significantly more expensive than the Husky ($1,000). But then again we are talking about a 2010 TE510 and a 2011 530 EXC.

I currently have 8 windows open trying to compare these two bikes and I am lost in the soup. Any insight would be greatly appreciated: the good , the bad, the ugly. Anything!

I'm going to ride the Husky tomorrow. I will see if all of this close gear ratio talk is of any concern for my style of riding. If not, I will see if I can swing a deal and make this happen. If not, it means that I am headed to the KTM dealer on Tuesday to see if we can make that work.

I waited almost 3 weeks for a common gasket for my KTM (even after they received it...the "forgot" to send it to me!

). I got a cam for my TXC 250 in about a week from Halls. Definitely don't worry about parts availability. There are lots of aftermarket parts too. Places like Motosportz, 7602, Zip Ty, etc. almost exclusively make aftermarket bling for Huskies and their stuff is much higher quality than any MSR or Moose part you might buy for your Kawi. You'll also find that many things can cross over from other bikes depending on the model of Husky (brake pads, oil filters, fork guards), which even further expands your possibilities.

I think resale is very dependent on your region. Resale in Oklahoma...not so good. Resale in areas where Huskies are more prolific...probably a lot better.

I know the 2010s are a lot different, but we had a 2006 510 and the power was just about perfect for dual sporting and street riding. It was a motard, so we never got excessively far from the pavement. We also have a 2009 TXC 450 (still carburated) and it has been nearly bulletproof. I don't want to jinx ourselves, but it has required nothing more than routine maintenance, which is good because its a miracle if my husband even does that. lol.

And, one of the best things about getting a Husky is this forum. Everyone here is really helpful and you don't have to put up with the "shoulda got a X brand motorcycle instead of that Husky). I have found resolutions for nearly all of my questions on this forum...which is great because I don't have a dealer nearby and have to do my own wrenching.

08 TE510.. 8000 miles on the clock and the valve lash has yet to require adjustment. Expect to replace tires, sprockets and chains. Mine has ran flawless since the day I purchased it with the power up kit installed. Ran it in with ease and it has rewarded me with eye ball popping exhileration.
