    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hi Everyone,
I have a very nice and clean 1995 wxe/wxc 360. well at least it was until my last ride on it when motoring through the NJ pine barrens and it just quit. Tried to restart it and the engine turned over but did not spin freely. I suspect a crank or rod bearing. Checked compression as well as I could and got 130psi. Drained the oil and had silver color in it but no pieces of metal. I have begun the teardown and am ordering the flywheel puller from Halls, I think I will order a tusk case splitter and clutch basket holder. Not sure if I need a crank puller or other tools. I am hoping not to order any more specialty tools then absolutely needed until I am able to find out what is wrong with it and if it is fixable (I believe it will be). I had just added the Lectron and it made a big difference in its performance, just love it and want it back on the road. Any overall hints or tools needed info will be appreciated.

the tusk case splitter will be needed, but you also want the crank puller too. not sure what your problem is but would be a good idea to replace crank seals and give it a good inspection.
 
Thanks does the crank puller needed have to be a Husqvarna specific tool do you know if tusk makes one that would work?

Does anybody know of a reliable husky mechanic I could send my engine to, starting to think I will pay almost as much in tools as it will take to do the job.

that depends, where are you located? might want to add that to your profile so people know.
both the splitter and installer can be tusk, i just fully went over my 360 last spring using both of those with little or no issue.
 
Thanks for that, I am located in Northern NJ. Which Tusk installer did you use do you have a part number on that?, What did you use on the rotor removal?

Nah you dont need the speciality tools if you have an impact driver you can get away with out the clutch basket holder.
If you have a blow torch you can do without crank puller, i have always used the flywheel puller though.
Just get all the bolts out of the case and tease them apart there are two slots with reinforcments for the tool to go in i use a flat blade screwdriver some times the crank stays in one half only thats good as you can strip everything out of the case and just heat it up to let the crank drop out.
Keep us posted on how it goes.

how do you assemble the cases, you left that part out? im not a fan of using the cases bolts to squeeze back together. its harrd on the threads and its hard on the bearings.
the blow torch trick doesnt work as well when you want to save your seals or you are assembling with fresh seals.
i agree about the basket holder, i just impact it. the flywheel puller is cheap and saves a ton of trouble.

to the op, i guess you need to ask yourself how cheap you want to be. i like having tools to do the job. some cases split easy, some split harder. sometimes a previous owner used a tough gasket compound. sometimes they damn near fall apart tapping with a soft dead blow hammer.
 
I put the cases in the oven at 80-100 for ten mins i put the crank bearings in the freezer overnight, drop the bearings in the case and drop crank in the right hand side i leave it in there when installing all the gear box bits making sure ive not left anything, gasket on that half while the left hand side with crank bearing is in oven.
When im happy everything shims and all is in i drop the other half on and use hand pressure behind a towel to push it together not force involved just thunk as it slides over.

Not damaged a seal with blow torch yet just keep it moving and work your way into the center no issues yet.
